    Is it ok to keep my Seagate FreeAgent 500GB External HD connected to my computer at all times? (even though it gets a little bit hot)

    Should be fine. Although if you're not using it, no sense keeping the hard drive spinning though.

    thanks sam - so should i just eject it from my system and unplug the USB and leave the power plugged in?

    Leaving the power wouldnt stop it from spinning i guess. I just eject my Maxtor external drive from system and unplug Power cord rather than the USB.
