Well I just upgraded my MBP with the latest firmware. I'm can't remember if I ignored this a few times, or if this is a recent update, but anyways. Everything is okay. I just wanted to share something I noticed immediately after the update and restarting.

My fans were quite loud and I worried that the update had caused a conflict with SMC. iStatpro reported over 6000 rpm while my cpu core temp was about 122ferenheit. My SMC reported it should be closer to 2700 rpm, but the temp was ~50celcius which is equal. Within 5 minutes the temp remained the same..and the fan speed dropped to normal speed.

    As Han Solo would say...
"Uh, everything's under control. Situation normal."
    Voice: What happened?
Han Solo: "Uh, we had a slight weapons malfunction, but uh... everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here now, thank you. How are you?"

I had a weird thing happen, in that my virtual machine in parallels disappeared. Luckily I run parallels through boot camp so all I had to do was create a new virtual machine, and everything was the same.

You should notice a bit of a speed increase, and better allocation of ram now too.

LOL, funny yet appropriate quote :)!

Sometimes after a significant update and subsequent first restart the fans act in overdrive. I don't know why, but I think it's normal. This has happened to me a few times on my iMac G5. After the second restart the fans return to normal speeds every time.

Slightly off-topic, but I'd go so far as to default SMC Fan Control (or even default and then uninstall it) before any major OS or hardware update. You don't want a freak accident (maybe lightning will hit your laptop?) to get your fans stuck at 5k as the minimum forever :p

Thanks.. I just upgraded my quote to be more correct. I'm glad you liked it. Good think I didn't have a reactor leak. Cause we know how that ended for Han. :D If my fans got stuck, I can imagine a digital Bill Gates walking onto my desktop as windows Icons flood my MBP. Bill says something like, "Now you know that Evil will always triumph..because good.. is Dumb!"

my guess, they are recalibrating the speed after the firmware update.

Ya, the photographer really did an amazing job. I can't remember how I found it, but it always gets comments.

For anyone who isn't familiar, it's a night exposure of New York City, but I can't remember what avenue. I guess it's on the east side.. but here's a clue.. there's a sheraton in the left of the photo
