Hey Ive had my mac book pro for 3 months now and Im starting to wish i got a standard macbook instead. I think id like the smaller form and have found that i dont really need the extra power that comes with the mbp.

What would be the best way for me to trade my MBP for a MB and get the most money of the difference back?

Should i just Ebay it or is there a better way?

p.s. really enjoying the mac life since i switched over from windows.

Yeah, selling it would definitely be the best option. There may be a Macbook update next month though. If you want to get the most out of your money, then I would wait till after Leopard is realeased to get a new Macbook.

I did the same as you. I really enjoy the smaller package and I think the Blackbook looks pretty cool. Unless you need the extra horsepower (especially in the 3D department) a MB works beautifully. The only thing I really miss are the few extra pixels of the MBP. Apple really needs to update the MBP design. It's a couple of years past due.

I would try to sell or trade it locally if possible. Ebay is always an option. Macs have excellent resale value so you won't loose that much money.

what? how so you like the Macbook better than the Macbook pro? doesn't make sense. you know the macbook is not really perceivably lighter. and also the screen is not as good. viewing angle is horrible.

smaller form factor also introduced several problem; mainly the smaller screen size. and the backache i'm having from bending my back in order to see the screen.

i don't see why you want to loss your money that way. you're essentially downgrading it; and tossing money away. you sure you wont regret getting the macbook?

why do you say you want less power? whats the disadvantage of having surplus power? the energy consumption is really not that big of a difference.

you sure you won't miss the MBP better screen? you sure you wont miss the MBP's keyboard backlight?

my advice; keep your MBP until you really need a new notebook, then decide whats best for you.

Yep. If you had the cash to get an MBP, I would stick with it for the reasons wobble listed. It is the best notebook on the market, period.

The MB is only good if you want something small, cheap, and portable.

Actually it does feel a bit lighter and the overall package is smaller. The MB is also a bit more durable..it can take a few hits without denting. You really notice the size difference when in tight spots like an airplane or in the car. I'm not sure where you get the idea that the screen on the MB isn't as good as the MBP. The MB screen is actually a bit clearer (less grain) than a MBP (glossy). The MBP's display is a touch brighter but not by much. The viewing angles are comparable.

 I don't have any issues there.

The only regret would be in not knowing if he made the correct choice. I am happy with mine. YMMV

I don't look at it as wanting less power. I would say it's making a compromise. Just like if you were to go purchase a subnotebook. The subnotebook is smaller, lighter, more portable, etc. but you loose performance.

Screen is moot. The backlight is nice but not a deal breaker.

Well, if you're willing to take the monetary loss from selling your MBP and then getting a MB, then I'd suggest you post it on eBay and also post it on the Buy/Sell/Trade forum here on NBR. Remember to follow the B/S/T rules, its a sticky on that forum.

I think its been pretty clear what the original poster wants; a smaller notebook, which obviously translates to a smaller screen. He's stated that he likes the small form factor, because the MBP, while not much heavier, is larger in dimensions, which does make a difference in say an airplane, where a 13.3-inch notebook can still be used but usually 15.4-inch is too large.

Anyways, if you decide that you're really going to sell your MBP to get a MB, I'd suggest you start selling around now, and get a new MB in October, right after the Leopard update and possibly there may be an update of the MacBook as well.

Think about this before you do it, since i was in the same boat, i went to the mb, and within a few weeks wanted a new mbp, so go play with it, there are few small things i missed.

The keyboard the way it types and lights up
The screen the way it dimmmed
    The power (not too noticable)

and finally it weighed about the same.

    Just an opinion, good luck

yes, although i do agree with you on the MB being more durable. the MBP scratch and dent rather easily if you were travelling or if you drop it, alumunium is quite soft.. although the MB scratch more easily, the polycarbonate casing hides it pretty well.

Mmm.. I wouldn't know the best way to do it. But

    a) selling and buying a new macbook

    b) trading with someone who might want to

    c) Just wait because everybody knows there are new macbooks on the way (although they might be more expensive..)

BTW, for people asking why the exchange... when you travel a lot, move a lot, take planes a lot or simply take your notebook everywhere. Do not game, do not do real hard work (just surf the net, office works, and maybe some multimedia usage), a small form factor is a must... and the extra power? you don't need that.

It's like comparing a 14.1'' laptop to a 15.4''; on paper, difference isn't much, but on a day-to-day use, you really, and I mean really, notice a big difference. Enfasis on the big word.

If you never used/neeed/wanted a 13'' laptop, then on paper you might think "it's not quite a huge difference"... but ask people who travel a lot and use it everyday...

If you need to exchange then do it =] you'll be happy with your macbook =]
