    Hey guys,

Today I updated to 10.8.3 and it seems that now a lot of my apps are forcing my machine to use the dedicated graphics instead of the integrated graphics -> By doing some research Ive found that this is a common issue amongst several people who upgraded to 10.8.3 especially Macbook pro 2010 owners.

Id really like to know if there is any possible way of downgrading from 10.8,3 to 10.8.2 without having to do a clean install? I'll greatly appreciate anyone's input on this

You are better off using GfxCardStatus to control your own graphics switching.. then you can lock the integrated graphics on all the time, then switch it only when you want it switched.

Thanks for your reply. In fact I have been using GfxCS for a while but the problem is that now when i try to switch to integrated graphics it doesn't over ride it. It states that the following applications are using the dedicated card. These are mostly simple apps like twitter, fantastical and skype (which never used or required dedicated graphics). Hence why Im actually stuck with my computer always using the dedicated card and this started happening from the 10.8.3 update

yeah... once an app is using the GPU, its kind of stuck... older gfxCardStatus would let you switch back, but I think it was bugged and never worked quite right.

Right now i keep my Intel locked on 95% of the time. If I need to switch to the GPU I do... if I need to switch back, I close the apps that are stuck on the GPU.

Origin forces dedicated, I only got Origin for the upcoming release of Sim City which I do plan to get. Probably a mistake but I need games on my macbook, lol.

Yh Now i regret upgrading to 10.8.3. Basically every single app is forced to run in dedicated graphics now. so apps that i keep on all the time like skype or fantastical are going to use guess i might as well adjust to it

rMBP seems to be a disaster one after another. Good thing that I nixed the idea of upgrading..

I've had no such issues on my 2011 machine. Wonder if it's a problem only for NVIDIA-equipped models.

The only way to be completely sure is to do a clean install. If you download the Mountain Lion installer from the App Store, it contains 10.8.3. Create a bootable USB flash drive from it. I've used a program called Lion DiskMaker as it does everything for you without needing to extract the .ESD file from the App Store package.

this is nothing to do with rMBP. its the fact the programs being ran in question are NOT programmed correctly to make sure they don't switch on the GPU. They are hitting libraries that the developers know (or should) will lock on the GPU, and apparently thats how they want it to work... Skype and others really could just fix their software.

Weirdly enough, that trick worked. I force the gfxcardstatus to run on integrated graphics before the other startup applications force the dedicated graphics. Its weird coz I assumed once the open the application again that the app will switch to dedicated graphics again. Lol, at least that problem is sorted now thanks for your input and thank you all for your info. I think at a later point im just going to reinstall mountain lion but leave it at 10.8.2
