In so many of the other forums people compare the pros and cons of the MBA vs. the Samsung 9, the new Lenovo X1, even the Sony Z. I was shocked to see not a single thread about the MBA, much less an "Owners Lounge."
Is it just that NBR is so Mac-hostile or does MacRumors have this thing monopolized? Real disservice not to have people here relating their experiences comparison shopping and newly using the MBA.

Places like this is usually a ground for discussing problems.
I have one (an MBA).
My problems are so few, that I just don't have much reason to complain.
Nor do I sense any sort of hostility to the MBA.
If that makes for a boring forum,...so be it.
The Apple (forum) site has plenty of "new to Mac and MBA" people with problems to satisfy the person wishing to see questions about MBA's.
I like that there is a place where minimum of people comparing THE MBA to PC "rivals". Like you said, there is plenty of that elsewhere. -
Sorry, we don't much care about underpowered plastic crap!

no MBA is aluminum. hes talking about one of the other products. I have an 11 inch air. I have no complaints or reasons to post about it though. it does its job and made my ipad useless

CitizenPanda Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
I have a Macbook Air 13 and am replacing it with a Macbook Pro 15 since I got the iPad 2. I'll be getting a refreshed Macbook Air 11 as well.
-
I'm pretty sure I'll buy a 13" this summer if it's Llano based or Core i5. Meanwhile, gonna dump my MBP and slum it for a while on a E-350.
-
just kidding...=) -
The problem with the MBA is...well, it folds. That makes it a notebook in my view, and I really don't need two of those. Since my MBP is my primary machine (hate desktops), it was the clear choice for me. The iPad is enough to satisfy my other needs on the run (funny how I don't feel the same way about owning both an iPhone and iPad though, even though the same distinction applies).
On MBA vs others...well, the only thing I have to say is--for years, people have complained of the "Apple tax," but it's pretty ironic that when some other company finally comes up with a form factor around as thin and (arguably) as elegant, the price comes out to be just, if not more, expensive. -
MBA is a really good value, IMO. The battery life on it is false, though, because you can only get the rated hours if you are using Safari with Flash disabled. Who uses Safari and who doesn't use Flash?
The only thing that would make them perfect is if they ship with Llanos in June and Llano does Core i3 on the CPU side and HD5670 on the GPU side. We could Chrome it up and still get 8 hours (if performance meets the high expectations). -
I don't see a lot of anti-mac sentiment on this site. So many different computing options exist because there are so many different computing uses.
-
Let me revise my earlier statement in light of the most recent iMac refresh. Depending on where I fall on the release cycle when I decide to upgrade, I'd be very tempted to ditch my current MBP+27" Display combo for just an iMac + MBA instead (funny how they come to almost the same price).
But by then, we're probably expecting a new chassis for the MBP, so I'll probably just stick with that anyway
So no MBA for me -
-
Yeah, it was rhetorical. I hate it when people don't understand hyperbole and require clarification for every little exception

I'm a pretty new mac owner. Our of curiosity, what are the general criticisms of using Safari?
-
The only thing I find really stupid in Safari is the option (and default "on" no less) is the "Open Safe Files After Downloading" option. This is the whole reason people have been getting the MacDefender malware this week.... because javascript can force you to start downloading, and stupid Safari goes ahead and uncompresses and runs the thing, then people not understanding what it is, go through the whole install (including giving it a password) and they are then infected.
I suggest using Sophos Free home anti-virus though.. its great, and will help protect you no matter what web browser you are using. -
LOL, I suppose then Sophos does have a redeeming value to me ( I mean if I were using Safari). -
-
But I admit I like Chrome better. More add-ons, cross-platform syncing without the mess that is XMarks, and better keyword searches.
Canary out for OSX, but unfortunately still no way to set it as default browser, making it a bit useless. -
Chrome work much better than Safari currently. Just load both and scroll. Chrome is WAY smoother...
-
Don't crap on people who want to use Safari. Some people just want to use garbage and are adamant about it. Let them.
