I noticed since I installed Vista 64 via bootcamp that my MBP is a bit warme than it was in mac OS X.
Anyone else notice this?
I havent tried installing games or taxing the GPU yet...i bet it gets even hotter then.

Yes it runs hotter and shaves off about an hour of battery life.

That is normal, and well documented. The Mac's fans automatically slow down in Windows, to 1000 RPM, as opposed to 1800 RPM default in Mac OS X, so yes, running Windows is hotter for the Mac. You can use SMCFanControl to set the speed first in Mac OS X, and then reboot into Windows if you really want a higher fan speed.

I dont mind if it runs a bit hotter...my question would be if I am playing COD 4 will it hurt my system or will I be ok?
Along those lines what can I use to test my GPU temp? -
Well, on Mac OS X you can use iStat Pro...there is something for Windows, I don't remember what it is.
Anyway, I wouldn't worry too much about it. The processor can handle over 100 C without permanent damage, and its rare that you would reach that high. I'd expect it to hover around 80 C at high gaming. -

the main program in windows for temp monitoring is CoreTemp.
seems to be the only acceptable tool these days. -
I have the same issue and I have a macbook. Vista is just a cpu/ram hog like that. When running windows media player or just a webpage with alot of flash content it really gets hot.

Thanks kgeier82! CoreTemp fits the bill for me in Windows XP (via Boot Camp). Quick question, what do people normally get for temps in Windows XP using Boot Camp? Mine shows 60 degrees celsius (which is perfectly normal).
Does your MBP run a little hotter in Vista?
