It's the 7th, and Apple still hasn't sent any emails out, to my knowledge... So, yeah, does this mean that the October 14th even is highly unlikely? I'm in the UK, btw, so, I guess that's a factor. It sorta sucks if there won't be one, but I just thought Apple would of told us a week in a advance, I hope it's just the time differences...
Anyone received any emails in regards to an event? I haven't =[.

XD, *extremely tempted to do a Time Machine pun* :p. Yeah, it was like half way through the post I noticed the time differences. You'd think Apple would consider UK peoples who are waiting for shiny emails from Apple :(.

But I don't want a new Chipset or games, I WANT MACIONTOSH! :D. xD, jk. But, yeah, 6:25 PM here, minus that by 8 hours(friend in Calfornia's time) makes it 10 AM, so, I guess I might have to wait 'til tomorrow morning. Personally, I'd get up at 10 to get Apple Fans in the UK dancing around in an disturbing manor... :p .

I didn't even think about what the time difference is between here and California. It's still early in California so an announcement might come later in the day. Not only that, but if invitations are being sent out then they might not even show up until tomorrow or thursday.

I can't wait until November 11th, I can only wait until October 15th. If nothing shows up by October 15th then I will be buying another brand. I've never owned a MAC and had finally made the decision to switch but if they're going to be so shady about their new products then maybe I don't want to a product made from Apple.

I doubt they will lose much, their sales are stronger than ever and I doubt that will change, it sucks for consumers who want the best and latest of things but this is how they always have rolled, they dictate the terms not the consumers.

I'm getting pretty fed up with it personally, and its nice to see Wozniak criticizing Apple often, at least someone in that hen house is looking out for the consumers.

How hard can it be to update notebooks? Everyone else has done it, I want a new laptop badly but I wont go pay 4-5k$ for outdated notebooks which will probably be 50% less powerful than the new notebooks.

I don't get why they can't just say that they will be updating there notebooks, it's annoying, They don't have to give any other information, just say a month, it at least gives us something to look forward to, not a bunch of rumors. But I still won't lose up until like Thursday.

Well, then a lot of people will hold off from purchasing which will run down profits a lot.

I'd probably go for the Vaio Z if it wasn't so expensive, I still might if the new notebooks wont launch soon or if they will be underwhelming.

Because they will lose a lot of business that way while they try to clear out the old stock. People wont buy, just wait.
Plus, I think they love the publicity of all the rumors and hype building up.

Not to start a flame war here but, seriously, what's the big deal with having absolutely the latest revision? Apple notebooks are usually in the 2-3K range (not the 4-5k you mention) and there's *no* way the new model will be 50% better, just forget it. If you believe that, especially in this times of not-so-increasing Ghz, then you are a victim of marketing. It's not like you'll be getting the jump from 386 to 486, you know...

Yes, the new platform/cpu will probably have better support for parallel processing, some specialized new instructions, somewhat better cache management and so on and so forth, but I'll bet most users will no be able to tell the difference.

If you need the notebook now, just get it, it will work perfectly and most probably be more than most users will ever need.

You have to remember that we who live in sweden pay about 40-50% more for the same products as you guys across the pond, so if I'm going to buy something in that price range it better be the latest, I wont go and pay that much for a MBP which has really old specs, and a flawed gpu.

    Maybe you would?

I see both of your views, though, I think it's the re-design that's the thing we're waiting for, not the specification bump, which, will probably be minor. For all we know, they might even change the brand name, that's why people wait, I honestly do think most people wouldn't be desperate for the event, if it wasn't for the highly speculated re-design supposedly on the horizon. If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't be bothered about a specification bump, but maybe the speculated price drop is also significant for the others waiting.

Obviously, some people will be waiting for the specification bump, but, either this event-that-no-one-can-confirm has been either EXTREMELY over hyped(decent probability...), or we're going to get a bit more than a specification bump :p, which, from what I've seen and heard, is what the majority is excited about, xD.

Agreed. It's not the spec jump. I am looking at either a MB or MBA. I want an aluminum cased, LED screen MB or a MBA with a faster drive and removable battery.
    It's that simple.

It's 5:33 PM here and no official announcement from Apple on anything new. My guess is Mac World in January 2009. I also smell a massive Mac Mini upgrade, but my spidey sense has been way off with anything Apple related so don't quote me on that.

Maybe just maybe the impending doom of the world via financial meltdown has pushed the release date for the mac's back abit.. maybe a week?
It could be viewed in bad taste to have a huge event for essentially a luxury item when 90 year old grannies are trying to top themselves cause they just lost there house.... that or the media might just not take as much notice right now?

If the new macs aren't going to be released until next year I would be very disappointed. I'd also be very tempted to buy a pc (prolly vaio for blu ray) instead. But then again I might just buy the current MBP.

Apple doesn't look like it'll be supporting Blu-Ray anytime soon. If you're looking for Blu-Ray, sticking to a PC would be better since the hardware has been around for a while now and the driver support is quite good. (Again, spidey sense is acting all haywire, so don't quote me on this either :p)

I'm not waiting 'til 2009 for an update... I don't even want to a Mac if they're this bad at updating... >.>. I also hope they add a new chip set, or allow support for up to 8 gigs of RAM on the MacBooks. Apple suxxorz right now xD. I don't see why Apple wouldn't want to update the Macs in time for Christmas, since, I'm pretty sure they are just holding back a re-designed model... Doesn't make sense.
