I had a 72k HD SR MBP 2.4ghz...I returned it for yellow tint, but from I remembered...the palm area gets really really hot. I am just wondering if this is because of 7200 RPM drive or its the same also for 5400 RPM drive.

Should because of the 7200 RPM drive in my opinion. Most laptops with that can get pretty hot from the hard drive.I do believe it is because of the lack of ventilation?? That's from my experience though.

The part of the palm rest over the 7200rpm hdd is definitely hotter than the right side - this is most evident when you turn the fans on and the rest of the notebook gets cool, the left palm rest will still have some heat.

Mine doesn't really get more than warm. But I have a 5400 RPM drive.

I have a 72k , it's just warm. Not a problem. I do have the marware palm rest cover on though. Hottest parts for me have been rear center, bottom gets hot, and if you touch the metal piece at the top and leave your finger it will burn.

I also have a 5400 RPM disk drive in my MBP-SR 2.2 GHz model and the palm rest on the right side only gets somewhat hot when I'm doing some DVD-burning. The left side gets a tiny bit warm when I run Fusion and load WinXP with it.

Yeah - i was planning to buy 7k200 - but after I saw how HOT my MBP is with 5400 drive - i decided not to buy it... those 7200 rpm drives are a bit more hotter
