Does Apple have sales on Christmas? When DOES Apple have sales???

So, I missed Black Friday and I was wondering if Apple usually has Christmas sales on the MBP. And how much are the sales usually? And does apple have sales on any other occasions or holidays? I'm actually more wondering about Macmall because with apple I have to pay huge taxes... but if apple has a sale Macmall usually has a similar sale just without taxes...

 

Apple has sales very rarely and the student discount is usually better if you are one. The best sale for students is over summer, they gave $100 app store credit last summer and a free iTouch the summer before.

Also Apple's sale rates are pretty bad, Amazon sells cheaper if you aren't a student.

I'm in 9th grade and, actually, I think their promotions are for all high school students, while education pricing on laptops themselves is only for college students - and that's year-round.

 

No, you can still get the student discount on the MBP even if you are in high school. I went to Apple's online store, plugged in my old high school (which is in a very, very, very small town), and the MBPs all had the same price as when I picked up mine earlier this year after plugging in my graduate school information. In fact, the education discount applies for undergrad college students, graduate college students, professors, high school students, mid-high students, elementary students, and K-12 teachers.

That student discount is going to be the smallest "sale" price that you will see from Apple. Their sale event on Black Friday reduced prices by $101 so it wasn't anything special. Essentially Apple was giving everyone their educational discount.

So plug your high school into Apple's online store and you will be able to access their educational discounts. I don't know where you live but you might also want to check your local Microcenter store. They often sell Macs for discounted prices that either match or beat Apple's education discount pricing. For example, they used to sell the baseline 13" MBP for $999. That is $200 off of the original price and it even beat out the education discount by $100.

Other than Black Friday, Apple doesn't have a sale on their items. They won't even keep selling their MBPs at the same price the day before they are going to be replaced. They don't decrease their prices to liquidate their inventory or anything like that. Your best bet is to just use Apple's educational store or to go to third party stores such as Microcenter or Best Buy. I know Best Buy is having a sale on all MBP and MBA models. It isn't enough to match Apple's educational pricing but it is still a discount nonetheless.

 

I would look to purchase a Mac during their summer promotions in which as xfiregrunt said, it has been a $100 off Mac App Store this past summer while the previous couple summers have been a free 8 GB iPod Touch. If you're looking at authorized retailers, Amazon is probably the best especially if you have Amazon Prime. I think the best prices are during Black Friday and Apple's summer promotion.

It says "I am a K-12 teacher, administrator, or staff member." It does NOT say "I am a K-12 student." So... I don't know.

 

Eh, I wouldn't worry about it. The whole thing is based on the honor system in which you are supposed to prove you are in fact who you say you are only if Apple decides to ask you (which has probably never happened). In other words, Apple isn't really going to check your status but you aren't supposed to be able to access their educational discount unless you fully qualify. There is technically nothing stopping someone from saying they are a college student to get the discount. Hell, a bum with a P.O Box could say they are a high school teacher and get Apple's discount.

It should also be clarified that Apple's prices during the summer don't change. The only thing is that they do have a back to school promotion where they throw in something extra with a MBP purchase. They usually put some iPod in with your order for free. One year it was the iPod mini, they had a couple of years with the iPod nano, and then a couple of years with the iPod touch. Of course, they aren't the top iPod models but free is free. Last year was the first time in a long, long time where they did not offer a free iPod but instead gave people $100 credit towards the Mac App Store. The prices of their products did not change during that period, they just offer something as an incentive for buying a Mac.

I don't know if you can wait 6 months but if you can, it wouldn't hurt to see what they have down the line. However, if you need a new notebook now, there is no point in waiting.

 

Are your parents teachers or professors? Are they on the local school board? Do they work in school administration? These categories of people qualify for educational pricing.

Some companies have agreements with Apple so that employees can get a discount on Apple products.

Apple also has educational pricing for homeschoolers - we bought many machines under their homeschooling program. They do check your paperwork if you buy in an Apple Store but they never checked up on us for online purchases.

 

You get discounts if you are in College or your friends/parents work as professors at a college.

Generally speaking, Apple usually does not offer any more major discounts.

 

Eh, well, no, but I just ordered with the education discount anyway. It did ask me to swear on my life (not really, but it did look VERY serious, and I had to check two boxes saying that I have carefully read the license agreement and am a high school teacher. VERY scary, I hope they don't sue me or something... ) and, well...

Also I got the printer promotion so I'm getting a free printer, yay!

No, the high school teacher discount is the same as the college student discount (unless they managed to buy from an unknown backwards portal in Apple's online store). Education pricing is education pricing. The only thing that varies is why actually gets to access it.
