Just wondering if defragging is a thing of the past with SSD's.

For SSD, you'll not need to defrag, but you'll need to do something similar to it. In windows, it's usually caled trim or garbage collection which keeps the performance up on SSDs.

I would just ignore defrag seriously. It's all chips. Like a flash drive.

The SSD does not fragment the same as a hard drive which, for the most part has to do with the mechanics of the hard drive. All ssds contain wear leveling algorithm which tackle any fragmentation issues automatically but also, modern day TRIM and manual optimization assists as well.

DO NOT DEFRAG
SSDs do not work the same way as HDDs do. Defragging DOES NOT improve performance. All it will do is decrease the life of your drive.
With that said, the SDD version of 'housecleaning' is called garbage collection. How it works in OSX and with a particular SSD, somebody else can help you with. -

OSX doesn't have native trim capability. However, you can easily boot into windows and do a manual trim.
Do I ever need to defrag a SSD?
