This morning I turned on my MBP and the taskbar on top of the screen had lines over it and just looked very weird.. I didn't think much of it so I just turned the computer off and back on. That solved the problem. A few hours later I closed the lid to go do some errands and when I opened it back up the screen was flickering and going from blue to the desktop and back to blue

it shoulds like a hardware issue, probably involving the GPU or display/display connections.

if it occurs often it would be wise to take the machine into an Apple store and see if they can tell you what is wrong with it.

if you aren't able to replicate what is going on, it will be difficult for them to determine the problem or see that that there may be a problem.

It sounds like the GPU may be overheating... or there is a display inverter problem.... (more likely to be the latter instead of the former).

I agree with circa86... you should probably take it to an Apple store and get it checked out.

It's only happened once so far (today). I bought the MBP in November. Unfortunately, I moved to Ireland and they don't have an Apple store in Dublin. I guess I'll just wait and see if it happens again.. I'm guessing that if I ship it in now, chances are they won't find the problem..

yep exactly, I would just wait until you have a better opportunity or the problem becomes constant, that way the problem will get taken care of properly.
