I seem to have a lot of discolouration on the palmrests of my macbook. It's kind of a darkish colour where i normally leave my hands. I've only had the machine for 2 weeks now, not sure if this is common. Anything i can do to fix it?

I don't think that it should be wearing out so quick, you should return it for a new one, it's probably a defective chassis.

Well, my buddies Mac is actually turning yellow, so you're not the only one ;) But you can always try talking to Apple to if they can replace, it, or buy some palm rest protectors.

I dont think i can fully return it because the 14 days are up. I'll call the Apple store tomorrow and ask about it. I would hate to have to replace it, redownloading stuff is such a hassle.

lol maybe you should wash your hand before using your notebook. try cleaning with water and some soap first. if that doesn't work i would have apple replace the palm rest because it's likely defective (< 2 weeks).

i was my hands, it's probably just skin acidity. I'll call apple tom.

How long does replacing a palmrest normally take?

lol, it's probably just dirt then. It's a textured area, so stuff gets caught in the crevasses.

Wow, why are you wearing out your new MacBook? Buy some microfiber cloths (I think Apple includes one in the box) and try wetting them a little, it'll work much better. If you like your MacBook looking discolored, then rub the entire MacBook with an eraser, if not, rethink what you're doing...

Are you kidding ? Have you even tried this?

    IT WORKS :D

I do it, and it actually works - you just have to choose the right eraser.. I forgot the name of the ones that are the best though..

My Mac Pro keyboard is getting a similar treatment. The white keys are turning dark.

That is the unfortunate side effect that I had this keyboard while I was still an engine builder/machinist and getting dirty every day. I often check references using my computer while I'm working on my cars as well.

My opinion? Keeps people off my keyboard, and away from my computer.

Invisible Shield from ZAGG works very well. Lifetime warranty if it get scratched/broken. It is a very cheap investment ($25 on Amazon free shipped) for any electronics.

If you know someone works at an Apple service point, you can have them replace the top case for you under warranty.

i dont think the OP has a discolouration problem. just clean it with water or some (reduce strength) alcohol.

the problem of the early macbook discolartion is the palmrest turning yellowish brown and cant be clean. this has been fix a long long time ago.

Alcohol and water might work. Clean and White eraser works best.
