Alright, I know I'm going to sound like a total noob (which I am) so here it goes:

I got my Macbook on Jan 31 and have never put a CD into it. I installed my APP and wanted to put the disc in...

How does one put the CD into the Macbook? I've never had a disc drive like this. Am I supposed to hold a button when putting it in? Because it seemed like I was forcing it in and the machine made weird noises. Thanks.

You just slide the CD in. There's no button to press. Just slide it in, and if you push it in until about 1/5 of the CD is sticking out, the drive should "suck it in". That's how it works :p.

OK, thanks Sam. I was worried I was ruining my disc or disc drive.. I'll go try again.

As Sam said, with slot-loading drives you simply slide the disk in until it's far enough in, the drive will take care of the rest.

They are slot loading drives like the ones that come in cars. They are loaded the same way: label side up, slide straight in.

Like everyone's said, you just push the disc right in, making sure it's facing up and that you're not using different sized discs.. :)

I remember the first time I ever put a disc in - the noise gave me a heart attack. x)

LOL, that's what I felt. I was like oh ****, what did I just do?"

BUT, along with the links provided here, Apple has a page on support that actually plays the sounds your supposed to hear for all stages of the disc drives operation. This company amazes me (in a good way).

Wow, that's...different! :p That's definitely an extra thing for the paranoid (not calling anyone paranoid here :), I was quite freaked out the first time as well)...hehe, "Press Play to hear SuperDrive sucking in a CD" :p.

I have done it before, its no big deal unless you are slamming the CD into the drive. You will know if there is another CD in the drive before you are allowed to force it in because you will feel the CD hitting against a hard surface in the drive. So don't worry about it too much. If you are gentle with your electronics you should be fine.

I've actually done that in a car. I tried to insert a disc when there was already one in there. It went right in and the first disc was still playing. Although there wasn't really any damage I would avoid doing it.
