Did the switch to Apple--regretted it!

Hello,


Once upon a time i had a Sony Vaio laptop.. it ran its course for a few years, then i decided to upgrade. I wanted a change so i purchased the 1.33ghz 12" powerbook..

It was very cool for a few days, but then it started to annoy me? Plain and simple OSX was just not as effiecient TO USE as windows was. Expose became annoying when you accidently went into the corners of the screen; i was left only with the crappy "task bar" and alt + tab.. sometimes id just want to use my mouse but couldnt..because i couldnt stand expose...And the task bar was just difficult to use. i dunno guys..

Maybe i just wasn't used to it (had it for almost 2 weeks), but i just seemed to be drug down using the power book. I wanted my windows back as sad as that sounds. I sold my 12" powerbook for about what i paid for it, and bought a Fujitsu S6210


Thought i'd just share this with other people who might consider switching over.

 

cool, thanks for sharing, I also find that having used Windows for over a decade it's not exactly intuitive to switch to something else. and being a programmer, i can't do as much with a Mac as I can with a Windows machine.

I guess you did a double switch!

 

Yh, I was very close to going powerbook 17" G4, but instead went IBM T42p for about the same price just to be safe.

 

Wow! Being a longtime Apple user it is surprising to me that I am beginning to enjoy looking at the world through windows. I know there are some glitches, but so does Apple except we Apple fans were more rabid about denying it. My Pwrbook is still used in the video/audio role. Have already put aside funds for the revised version of the Pwrbook line - G5 not this year I bet. Dual G4s??? Humor me.

The IBM T42p - expensive and worth it but for weaklings like me, the bulk was too much. Congrates on your choice. Abaxter, thanks again for the review. I hope there are more coming.

I decided that I will pick up a used Powerbook, something in the price range of $500 dollars... just to play with, and get the hang of the whole Mac world.. ill still keep my 1500 dollar Fujitsu laptop...and maybe at a later point swing back over.... or just keep both a mac and a pc laptop

 

Not impressed by the current crop of Mac laptops, but I do need a new computer soon. That said, I'm considering a T42. I have a great quote, that's good until the first week of November, which I'm holding off on, just in case Apple amazes us with a 9800 radeon and 3.5+ hours of ACTUAL battery life within that time frame *fingers crossed*. My only problem with Apple is that I can't watch Days of Our Lives episodes on it, since the proprietary Sony protected-content format of the show only works on windows and the media must be downloaded through IE on a windows machine. This sucks, because I have to wait until I get home to start downloading (sucks extra because my crap-ass Soyo-motherboarded download computer just fried itself). Other than that one caveat, I really can't find anything wrong with OSX. OS9.2 was guilty of flaws, just as win2k and XP are, but I really can't find much wrong with OSX. XP is a vast improvement over win2k (my gaming rig has never required a failure-induced reboot and the only issues that my download rig has had have ALL been attributed to the Soyo board - well, that and the fact that I get alot of hard-drive failures *western digital and maxtor suck - viva Seagate!* =X ). Anyhow, I don't think it's OSx that prevents one from being efficient - the flaw lies outside the Mac OS *wink*. Seriously, if one can figure out how to configure WinXP, OSX is no problem.

 

People should not talk bad about Apple Computers. They may offend a certain political party

I LOVE APPLE COMPUTERS!

Problem is, I don't love them as much as the Apple Evangelists do. I've beem using Macintoshes for over 20 years (anyone remember apple IIc?) and I've had varying levels of success during this time. I've also used Sun SPARC stations, Tandem computers and PC's as well. You see, to me they're all the same. The only thing different between them is the availability and type of software. My Macintosh is used primarly for Pro Tools and web development QA. Other than that, I use PC's for damn near everything else. Why?

1.) PC's have more programs and almost every major application for business and graphics for Macintosh have PC counterparts.
2.) PC's are EVERYWHERE

I do like my Macintosh and I'm planning on getting a faster one soon because the latest versions of programs won't run on my machine anymore (sound familiar?)

The thing I resent the most about Mac evangelists is that the arguments for the machine usually start with style issues ("looks cooler than PC"..."graphics LOOK better on a Macintosh") and the hardware shoot-out questions are bogus, irrelevant and overblown.

I think the pricing is greatly affected by the display - on both pcs and Apples. Look at the T42P. Once you add the Flexview, the price increases substantially. On Apples, I always purchased Applecare, for the display is always mentioned - though it has a strict procedure to assure the display was not damage outside the policy, it still gives some leeway in asking Apple to help you.

But, I agree with most. PCs run the world. How? Because they hustled. Also, Apple went for the "less than skilled" computer user and into the media/artistical clientele. Or "The difference between pc users and Apple users is that pc users try to make their computers work, while Apple users Do work on theirs."

I enjoyed the views here. Makes the forum worthwhile to return to everyday.
