okay, you guys have always come through for me in the past, and I once again need assistance. I deleted my /private folder b/c it grew enormously large and I thought it was unnecessary (this was obviously stupid in retrospect). this prevented me from booting. then I tried to do an archive and install (from a pirated leopard disk I bought in China (where I am for another month), I don't think this was the issue with my install, I think I just didn't have enough space) which failed to transport my old settings to my computer. when leopard started up it prompted me to create a new profile. by using mac disk on my boot camp partition I am able to see that my files are stored in a folder called previous systems.localized. My only thought to proceed would be to copy my old data on top of the fresh install that was created (using macdrive on windows), but this would be hoping that everything would magically work again and I know better from previous experience. anyways any help would be appreciated.

    Here's some advice.
    a) don't admit to piracy

    b) buy a cheap external hdd. clone/copy the whole drive to the external from boot camp. Then do a clean install of OSX. Then you can manually copy back across all your files from the external. It will be a long process and tedious, but given the issues I really think a clean install is the best idea.

as for a, it's legal here (and my legit leopard dvd is at home anyways) ;), as far as the govt is concerned I bought a legal leopard dvd from the guy I bought it from

Sorry, we cannot help you with a pirated copy of Mac OS X. That breaks the law and should not be encouraged at all. Thread closed!
