I need some last minute opinions from you guys. Best buy has just introduced an instant $100 sale on the 2.2 model for mbp. It's 2099.99 now Canadian and I am about to go out and get it. What do you guys think? should I get the 2.4 model? that one isn't on sale though. I am a student and will be using it for studies, lots of movies, and music. I'll be installing either parallels or bootcamp just for an accounting program and some games.

Do you think it's safe to buy a macbook pro right now? Are all problems fixed? Or should I wait longer for the new ones to fix some stuff.

exactly, thats the suspicious thing about it. The NEW 2.2 one is on sale at bestbuy canada for 2099.99. Original is 2199.99 so $100 off. I already called them and double checked. Why is this brand new model on sale?

Have no idea. Funny thing is as far as I know macs hardly ever go on sale. You know, you could get the specs and call the mac store or visit one and verify that the specs are the same. Kind of a roundabout way but that is what I would do. I think the new macs have the backlit led on the lid which should be able to tell you if its the santa rosa refresh or the previous gen.

Well, third-party retailers like to drop sales now and then, but never Apple through its Apple Stores. And its been how long, vaio_boi? I thought you had a Mac months ago ;).

Just get it now. The Santa Rosa MacBook Pros are fine, no issues have arisen yet, and Apple will replace it if any issues occur.

wouldn't it be cheaper to buy it online through apple? since you're a student you should also be able to get the student discount, which starts at $1799 (USD) for the base macbook pro and a free ipod nano too.

I am in high school so the discount doesn't work.

oh by the way, does anyone know how to fix the slow cursor movement in os x. I remember correctly even after changing in preferences, the mouse movies weirdly compared to windows. When i move slowly, it lags and when i move fast it jolts.

I have a Mac Book Pro and I can't see any difference on the mouse movement. I installed XP just to test it out, I'm not a Windows person but it's not slow and it doesn't track any different than the when I'm booted into Windows. As far as the 2.2 being on sale I would get that one unless you are a gamer and HAVE to have the best GPU then you want the 2.4. Don't read into why it's on sale. Too many people complain that their local retail stores don't offer enough sales or even worse what they want is never on sale. Most likely Best Buy has an overstock of the 2.2. Get your new Mac and enjoy your weekend.
One note, unless your "Vaio" name means something other than Sony's computers you may need to change to "Mac Boi" :D

haha perhaps I really should change my name once I get it. I think I have pretty much made up my mind and will be getting it tomorrow. I WAS going to wait for the new Dell m1330 to come out and check it out but I really want to give macs a shot. I mean after all, I AM a student and would benefit from having a mac. Thank you hldan.

Preferences ->Keyboard/Mouse ->Trackpad ->adjust slider to you liking.

Are you using an actual mouse, or the trackpad? When using an MX-518 with my MacPro, it acted just as you described until I changed to a different mousepad, and then was fine.
