Hey guys, ive had my 13.3" macbook for about 2 weeks now and i recently found a few dead/stuck pixels very close together...with the brightness set on high 1 or 2 pixels looks almost "rainbow" in color, and the other one kind of grey in color...very faint. ive tried a few apps and procedures to try and get these pixels unstuck but to no success.

    How should i proceed?

    There are only 2 options:

    1) Live with it.
    2) If your still within the 14 days of exchange period, go get it exchanged (most likely that they will do it for you).

Go to the apple store and see if they'll exchange it.

Go to an Apple store and complain about it, they're very nice and usually offer exchange without going into details.

i think i am out of the 14 day period. if i just take it to a mac store will they exchange the laptop or repair it? if they repair it will i get a loaner to use?
I dont really care about the dead pixels, its just the fact that the laptop is so new and this has already happened. On my previous dell laptops ive owned each for over 1 1/2 yrs i never had 1 dead pixel.

you ask politely, if that does not work, you raise the voice, just a little, saying just that, is this what can be expected in terms of quality moving back to the store floor, they don't like bad publicity, no-one does, so to not let you make a scene they might exchange it, if not spend 10 min telling customers, showing your laptop that don't get one- see here- they did not want to exchange mine.. etc :p

Dead pixels are a hassle, and I can't stand them. :p But anyways, I would take it in to the Genius and politely tell them your problem and see what happens. The worst they can do is say no.

EDIT: Just a bit late post

Don't be afraid to make a bit of a scene. Throw your consumer weight around if they are stubborn.

Then there are those "tips/tricks" for getting a pixel unstuck...if it is indeed stuck and not dead.

+1 to that, sounds like this should work 99% of the time given that the Apple Store is full of customers.

Question: what if you purchased not from an Apple store or from the Apple website directly, and instead, say, MacConnection.com (Authorized Apple Retailer)? If you find an issue, can you bring it into an Apple Store and get it exchanged?

Sure you can as long as it is an Apple product and it is indeed defective. :)

are you sure its dead pixel?

try cleaning the screen, it might be the dirt or glue or your saliva spewing towards the screen. apple manufacturing process usually left some errr.... glue-like residue on the laptop, much of these are left on the screen.

if not; definitely contact apple... providing the laptop is within 30 days, more than that and its going to be harder to get a replacement, if you only had it for a day or two, then replacement is easy. two weeks?? i think should be ok. just prepare a strategy before you talk to them.

don't act all smart.. just a concern about the quality ( high level) and if they could explain this, you have this spot on your screen, never seen this before on the computers you have and should you be concerned about the computer dying etc, you give them a chance to explain/fix it and ppl will look over to see what you are talking about, as their hear words like concerns, quality- the apple store is full on non tech dad's and young ppl attracted to the Mac, have to say apple has a good concept of a showroom there

The Apple retail store will only do exchanges on products bought from Apple's own brick and mortar retail store. They MAY do an exchange if the product was bought from Apple's website but that's up to the manager but they won't exchange anything bought from a different store.

My brother bought a Uni-MB off MacMall and had a defective battery cover and 9 dead pixels and he took it into the Apple Store and they replaced it happily even though it was from MacMall.
