If bought from Apple, you have 14 days to exchange it.

Seems great , speakers are fine, display wonderful apart from dead pixel, just what i need, I just need a replacement.

I just need ideas of what to describe the fault as, because 1 dead pixel is most likely now acceptable.

You know, this is the weird thing for me and illustrates the sheer range of Apple failures.

I've had scratched machines, warped machines, machines that wouldn't even turn on, machines with rattly bits inside, machines which can reach 55C on the outer casing, machines with obvious engineering issues, machines which flicker, machines on which the lower half of the screen is yellow, machines with spots of something behind the TFT (i.e. on the backlit surface), machines with broken keyboard backlighting, machines with faulty PSU's... and more. And this is just within a couple of weeks of delivery.

But... Never, ever, a dead pixel.

    Howzaboutdatthen?

Although now I've said that I'm probably going to get one.

Good luck on the exchange. Just hope the new one has no other issues.

The funny thing is i am use to a 1440x900 17" display and i have had a dead pixel before, but you can hardly see them so it`s no problem.

Now this mac has an 1920x1200 17" screen and the dead pixel sticks out a mile and seems quite large for the screen resolution.

It`s not dirt , I tried tapping it with a q-tip , I tried a dead pixel fixer no good.

I hope my replacement is OK, but it will be next week now :(

I have never seen a dead pixel before.

How can you see the pixel if there are more than 2 million pixels, or is it more like dead pixels?

How noticeable it is depends on which colour the pixel 'dies' in. A dead pixel is not usually strictly speaking 'dead' as in off, it's usually stuck on one colour. Green is usually pretty prominent for example. And this post has way too many usuallys.

there are times like playing movie. Whole screen is white or blue... you see a weird black dot.. and it is very annoying.

If you exchange the notebook, chances are the next one will have even more dead pixels. Many displays, esp. those with lots of pixels, have at least one or two stuck/dead pixels.

You sure it's not dust? Dust specks are pretty common under all of Apple's products these days.

Probably because the pixels were so tiny that you didn't notice some dead or stuck ones. I've had lots of laptops and desktop LCDs and HDTVs, and many of them had at least one or two dead/stuck pixels.

For my 24" LCD, I didn't notice several stuck pixels until many months after buying it.

I was a bit mixed up yesterday , but i installed bootcamp and Xp went fine.

My biggest problem has been trying to get the mail program to work, I think it does not like my mail server.

No i bought mine though an apple dealer that had stock, as soon as they received my faulty mac and credited my account i ordered a replacement for next day delivery, I ordered the exact same model it`s not like i had buyer remorse or anything.
