So I have a dead pixel (well its the one that is more white on a black screen... so I can't remember what its called) but I was wondering if I should take it to the apple store and see if I can get it fixed. It popped up out of the blue for no reason either... just looked yesterday and poof, it was there.

I read around and like you said, it should be covered. I'm pretty shocked that its already got a dead pixel and its been only a few months. I am pretty easy on my machines too and when I travel with it, its always in a hard shell case, then in a soft padded sleeve, then in a laptop compartment...

Anyone know how they will fix it? Will they take the computer and send it back to me in a couple of days or will they have to just get me a different machine? I really don't want to have to reinstall everything (mac partition and windows partition).

Apple's customer service is pretty good and they most likely will take care of you but dead or stuck pixels are not covered when it's only one. It's usually 5 or more but like I said, they may take care of you as nothing is ever the same for every customer.
The answers to your questions on how they will fix it can't be answered here, every response will only be a guess. Take it to the Apple store and let us know the outcome.

True, sometimes it does depend on how they are feeling at the store. I'll try and take it in tomorrow and report on how it went.

From my experience Apple has tightened their belt over the past few years. They used to be more accommodating and generous with Applecare. Now they do have their moments when they go above and beyond, I hope that is the case for you. Good luck!

I have yet to hit up the apple store due to issues with school and random things popping up. I did some reading though and am still debating going to get this fixed anytime soon... I have a samsung screen and I have heard stories of people getting replacement LG screens (some even with burn in issues).

I also noticed something weird about the "dead pixel". I can feel it when I touch the screen. Is this normal? At first I thought it was possibly some spittle or who knows what, but after using water and a screen cloth, it was not coming off. Is a dead pixel superficial... like would I be able to feel it on the screen?

If you can actually feel it, I doubt it's a stuck (white/other color showing up on black) or dead (black, no light on white) pixel. It could very likely be some dust trapped inbetween the layers, although I'm not sure how that could happen on the rMBP.

Also, care of your laptop usually has very little to do with dead/stuck pixels from occurring; that's simply a manufacturing defect that can crop up over time.

Dust makes sense... I may have just not noticed it earlier. On white, it comes up black and on black it comes up white.

Actually now that I think about it... I think it is something trapped because it appears when the screen is off too. That would definitely be covered.

Hey man, I have exactly the same (a few of them) and I was worried it might be actual physical damage to the screen, how did your problem work out? What did Apple say about it?

    Thanks!

I too had this problem on my 4 month old rMBP.
I had 3 white stuck pixels appear within 2 weeks. They were bigger than single pixels and were easy noticeable on any color background.

I took it to apple and they examined it and i was told that some pixels have blown and they have created a kind of crater on the outer screen coating that can be felt with touch. How or why is still being investigated but I'm getting a new screen assembly and should have it back soon.

Yeah there's no doubt that Apple would replace the screen if that's the case. I have a rMBP and have not experienced this issue. But thanks for sharing on how Apple handled it.
