The hd in my MacBook died. Which brand is best, Seagate, Western Digital, Hitachi?

They are really equal, all being good. I like Seagate the best from good product experiences, but WD currently has the biggest and fastest drives out.

when i used a seagate drive in my old black macbook, it would make a consistent soft knocking sound. another friend of mine had the same "issue." i think WD is tops right now.

I'd go with WD, I have a 5 year old WD still going that I am using right now because my Seagate died after 4 months.

Don't go with Seagate, I hear they have had problems in the past. I haven't had any experience with WD, but I can say that Hitachi has some really nice fast, cool drives. I don't know if you can really say that one brand's drives are faster than the others... 7200rpm drives spin at 7200rpm correct? Hitachi hasn't failed on me after a good 2 years, I just bought a Hitachi 7k320 to upgrade to and it is really quiet and cool surprisingly for a 320 GB HD.
