Do the new macbooks use ddr3 sodimms? I have been reading conflicting information on this, and could not find it on apple's site (probably just missed it).

I'm assuming that is does use ddr3, but it would be nice for those with the ddr2 already to be able to just switch those for an upgrade.

    Yup.

And for the first time, the direct Apple upgrade for the ram is worth it. $150 for the 4 gig upgrade... if you go to newegg, its the same price for 2x 2gb ddr3 sodimms.

It kinda is, but I've seen 2 gb DDR3 for $80 Canadian, if you get them on sale it's cheaper and if you do it you self you have 2gb of DDR3 you could sell.
