I got my new mac a week or so ago, and i decided to burn some dvd`s the dvd-r disks burned fine i tried a couple of different brands and did a verify.

My problem is with the dvd-rw disks, i have a couple of verbatim 4x and a couple of datawrite 4x used dvd`s not new, but when ever i try to write to these i get verrify errors or writing just stops 3/4 way though the dvd and i am forced to abort the write, i have done this 3-4 times on all dvd`s

I have even tried to do a full format/erase of the dvd-rw but they get to 3/4 and i get an error or the writing just stops.

I now have manged to get all 4 dvd-rw to work perfectly , but i had to burn a movie to them on my panasonic dvd recorder under my tv in my sitting room.

Then when i do a quick erase on the mac and do a dvd copy it works 100% with verification.

I now have all my dvd-rw disk working 100% as far as i can tell.

    Can anybody explain this?

try using toast or 3rd party apps... the built in os x burning app simply cannot cut the cloth for me.

I have been using toast 10 and a couple of other free software, but it make no difference.

One thing i did notice is that toast 10, only recognized my dvd-rw dvd`s as dvd-r and would not erase or burn them, but the free software would?

weird....it seems your drive is ok. perhaps try another brand of dvd. if this persists, then i suggest bringing it to an apple store, your drive may be damaged if the problem still happens with other brands.

I`ve ordered some new dvd-rw so we will find out if their is a problem, i think it may be an compatibility problem, over the years i have seen some dvd-r and dvd-rw that would work on one notebook and not on another.

It might be a slight aliment issue, but the burned dvd-r and dvd-rw work on my home dvd players ok.

It`s a 140 miles to my nearest apple store, anyway i know how to get the dvd-rw disks to work now.

It could be just a problem with old disks.
