Just to clear things up, that is Matsh ita (without the space). Its censored because putting the two words together creates a swear word in the middle, and its automatically censored ;).

We need a bit more info to help. What version of OS X are you using? Have you dumped your Windows partition and reinstalled through the bootcamp set up assistant? Has the DVD drive ever worked in Windows via bootcamp? What are you trying to do with the DVD rom drive? Play DVD's, gaming, what???

Sounds like you are running Tiger and bootcamp? Even though Bootcamp is expiring at the end of this month I am not going to say that's the problem but I would recommend to dump your Windows partition and just go through the bootcamp setup assistant and install Windows again, this will be your best fix since it's not your primary OS anyway.
