Wow prices have dropped alot on ddr3 :|

Go with the crucial, they've been known to have the best compatibility with the new Macs.

There is no difference spec wise between any of them.

When I bough my ram a 2gb stick was around $70-80 now you can get it for $40.

Yeah I have to agree on Crucial. They probably have the best reputation with Macs, and they're the cheapest of those links, so that's a double-whammy. ;)

You're welcome Colton. I am just a little depressed - when I was upgrading my unibody MBP from the 2.4 to 2.53 version, I accounted for the 360 dollar difference by saying that 2GB to 4GB RAM was worth an additional 120 dollars (from Apple). I justified the remaning 240 bucks for the increased processor spec, video card, and hard drive. The price of 4GB RAM (not upgrading 2GB to 4GB) is now half that....52 bucks is a still. I am really considering buying another set.

Well don't feel bad about your purchase. ;) . Technology is always changing, and so is the prices, so don't worry. It won't be too long before MBP's will be shipping with quad-cores, 9800GTX is SLI, etc... Technology will never stay the same.. ;)

Haha - indeed. You can never beat technological progress unless you have pockets as deep as the Mariana's trench.

You feel bad, let me tell you my story. I bought my Dell precision 3 years back wwith 512MB of ram. I waited 1 year for ram prices to drop a bit. 512MB was painful. Finally after a year I purchased 2 sodimms of 1GB for $150. I even asked on NBR and other forums, and was told further price drops would be far out into the future (I was particularly interested in 2GB sodimms which were selling for $300).
Then, just 2 months after I purchased, the ram prices dropped with 2x1GB being had for under $50, and 2GB sodimms selling for under $100 :(

Does anyone have any links to 4GB ram chips for the new macbook pro 17" ? DDR3. How much would moving to 8GB cost at the moment and is it a good time?
I'm guessing prices will drop over the coming months, but am finding it hard to find the 4GB ram chips. Any ideas anyone?

    Regards,
    Simon

there is little difference between the two... just has to do with supply and demand. I think it was only upgraded due to that, not because they wanted a faster processor in it.

the difference in the machines is well worth it. Sure it has more ram and a bigger hard drive, but more video memory you cant upgrade later.. as well as a faster processor. its not just a difference of 2.4 to 2.53 (now 2.66), but they are different processors... the main difference is the 2.53s have 6mb of L2 cache, vs half that on the 2.4.

doh123, I realize those differences, hence heading in that direction anyway :D. I am just lamenting the fact that DDR3 RAM prices just tanked like that.

Technology evolves too rapidly. you could just get a decently specced machine and hang on to it till it needs further upgrade. macs tend to preserve their resale values. so sell it when u need an upgrade.
