Just yesterday it started happening. The cursor will freeze and will take a few seconds to unfreeze again; I can't tell if clicking the primary button is just a placebo in terms of speeding up the process.

Seems to be happening mainly in Mail. At the very least, I can be certain that it happens MOST while I use Mail.

    Any suggestions?

I'm awfully close to formatting and reinstalling Leopard, but resetting everything will be a drag.

Have you tried restarting Mail.app or the Mac? Also check Activity Monitor to see if anything's happening when you get the freeze.

What should you do? Get used to it.

The new trackpad is a point of contention for many (myself included). The click is non-reponsive a good majority of the time. Like you said the curser hangs. Try opening 2 finder windows and dragging folders from one window to another (for hours). What a chore this was with the new trackpad. I felt mentally like a 4 yr old. In others words, as if I'd never used a mouse pad before!!

I spend hours on end on my MBP so this problem is probably relative to the user. It really depends on what you are doing. There are times it works fine (maybe 60% of the time), then I try to highlight some text or try to place the curser in the middle of some txt and it goes all squirrely on me. Being a poor typist can be a challenge with this trackpad as it is frustrating; very frustrating.

I'm sure there are times that the pad DOES record for you, like......like when you DON'T want it too - right? Programs start opening left and right simply when dragging files. Or you circle the pad again and again cause the darn pointer is missing!! Lets hope Apple solves this issue and releases some patch -- lets hope that happens soon.

Happens to me too, not just any apps but occasionally sometimes rarely the pointer/cursor would freeze and unfreeze it self.....a bit annoying sometimes.... but at least it is not completely frozen that it needs a restart.... hope Apple will do something about it.

I'm not on a latest gen. Apologies, but I'm on an early 2008 MBP.

Well for those of you that 'do' have a new late 2008 Macbook or MBP and found this thread, apple just sent out an update to address the non-responsive trackpad issue. Since the downland? So far so good!!!! :D
