I'm lost in which MacBook Pros are upgradeable. I plan on purchasing the MacBook Pro 13 (non-retina). I would like to purchase it with 4GB of RAM and a HDD with the intention of upgrading to more RAM and an SSD.

The model I'll be purchasing is listed at $1199 on MacBook Pro - Buy MacBook Pro with Retina display - Apple Store (U.S.)

    MacBook Pro

    13-inch: 2.5GHz
    Specifications
    2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
    Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz
    4GB 1600MHz memory
    500GB 5400-rpm hard drive1
    Intel HD Graphics 4000
    Built-in battery (7 hours)2
    $1,199.00
    Free Shipping

    Is this upgradeable? Thanks!

Also, what is the model number (like 9,1 etc) of the MBP 13 (non-retina) that Apple is currently selling? Is it 2012, 2013, 2014 model?

    Thank you so much Rhodan!

My work gave me a MBP15 Retina and I've decided to make the jump to get a personal one... but realized I don't know what I'm getting into.

My sig is a bit outdated. I now have a ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch. It's much sleeker than a MBP.

One thing I should add about the Macbook Pro.

I used to own the 2010 model and the screen resolution was an issue for me. At 1280x800 it did not provide enough real estate, I switched to the 13" Air and 1440X900 is much better for my needs as I don't use an external monitor. Upgradability is less of an issue for me as I usually upgrade my main system yearly. My 2011 and 2012 Air had i5, 4GB and 256GB, when I switched to the 2013 I went all out and got system in my sig.

there is hardly any reason to get the mbp 13 non retina.

the mba offers more resolution and the rmbp 13 is just great, aside that its a 2012 model

Scroll up ;) OP was looking at RAM / HDD Upgradable Macs and may have a specific requirement such as more than 8GB or able to swap HDD's easily for project/business work.

I dropped in a 512GB SSD and 16GB of RAM for a fraction of the cost. Since I already have a rMBP 15, I didn't need the higher res.

If you actually read my OP, you would understand that I was looking to upgrade it myself. Actually, reading the subject, alone, would have helped.
