    Hi,

What do people think we will see a penryn extreme (3.06 ghz) and/or quad MacBook Pro this year?

It's not designed to handle that type of heat, not to mention it's pretty hot as it is.

I'd say we'll see 3.06GHz processors in the MBP at the end of 2009. We'll probably see quad-core processors in the MBP in 2010, but I wouldn't be surprised if Apple didn't add them until 2011, though. Seriously, the fastest you'll find in a notebook right now is a 2.8GHz processor (the only 15" with it is the Alienware m15x), and quad-core processors will make thier way into notebooks that're double the size of the MBP at the end of the year.

Doubt it. I don't think MBP's cooling can handle a quad. The lowest TDP on the quad is 95W.

I know Apple to date has been conservate only using the txxxx preformance series ~35watts and not shipping any extreme series ~40watts.

The extreme X9100 3.06 is ~40 watts and the Quad QX9300 is ~45watts cpus talked about in this thread.

It is intresting that next year the nehalems preformance series look like they will be ~45 watts (graphics built in) and the extreme series ~55 watts (no graphics) but quad core. So apple is going to have to solve the thermal problem sometime soon.

It's about time for the MBP to get a new chassis all-together.

Agreed. After 5 years (PowerBook + MBP)... I think it's time for a change
