Does anyone have the Crucial Real C300 SSD installed in their MBP13 (April 2010 Edition)? I intend to swap my current hard-drive to it but wanted to know the following:

    * Any potential problems with running SSD using OS X? (I know it doesn't support TRIM)
    * Any benefit in battery life?
    * Average life of the drive before it bites the dust? I know it's hard to tell but is it feasible to expect SSD drives to last more than 2 years or so?

    1. No major potential problems, but I would enable "noatime" (Google that to get a guide on how to do it), as this disables the last access timestamp that is applied to all files in OS X. It's pretty much pointless and causes unnecessary writes on an SSD. Turning it off doesn't cause any issues and will prevent those unnecessary writes every time you simply access a file (not modify it).

    2. Yes, there is some benefit, but not all SSDs are created equally in this regard. I have an OCZ Vertex 2 and my battery life is slightly better than my 5400 drive I had in here before. It's definitely significantly better than a 7200RPM drive.

    3. It's hard to tell at this point, as the technology hasn't been this cheap long enough for many ordinary folks to test them thoroughly. I would suspect at least 3-5 years with ordinary usage should be completely feasible, at the very least.
