    Hey,

Sorry for this being a bit off topic but i had no idea where else to post this. So basically i got a hold of these awesome dock icons called 'The Kohbens Dock' which are like titles of dock icons rather than an images

So basically when downloading the dock set, i also get a .psd file to use as a template to create customised icons. So i tried opening using pixelmator but got lost afterwards.

Does anyone know any websites that give a detailed tutorial on how to create such icons from the psd file?

    thanks in advance.

    Hi,

I use a .psd icon template from this guy over at Deviant Art, called HarryBana.
This is his explanation to use a .psd in Photoshop (don't know about Pixelmator though):

    1. Open the psd with Photoshop.

    2. Go to "selection" and choose "load selection".

    3. Open your favourite image of your game, dvd or whatever in photoshop preferably a screenshot , art or a boxshot. And a logo.

Tip; while searching for a picture, best to go to the official site and look for some sort of file for press-releases/marketing (for magazines or advertisment).

    4. Adjust the pic to your own preference like brightness, contrast, colour and effects.

    5. Make a selection of it and copy this selection.

    6. Back to the template, use "paste in" to paste your selection in the template.

Then finally save the .psd as a .png (choose a new name as well) and you have your icon.

There is a freebie program I use called FastICNS that lets you take pretty much any picture file and generate a .icns icon file.

You can get your icons right using Photoshop or Gimp and save them as a png or anything else you choose, then convert them to icns.
