I'm still trying to adjust to the new OS, so here is a problem with creating folders. I have a Seagate FreeAgent 500GB External HD and I'm trying to create a folder using OS X. They only give me the options for "New Smart Folder" and did not allow me to simply create a New Folder. What is a Smart Folder and how can I create an ordinary folder so I can simply click and drag files into it? Thanks for your help in my transition into Mac OS X!

Format your Seagate to FAT32 or HFS+. You currently have it on a FS that is incompatible with OS X.

You can read from just about any format in OS X, but writing to it is a different story. HFS+ and FAT32 are amongst the few that can be written to natively with OS X.
There are third party software options for writing to NTFS drives though, just search around some.

or use parallels to write to the drive. -
Thanks. I'm going to try to install that program on Mac. I installed BootCamp and Windows XP Professional as well so I guess I can do all the transferring in necessary in Windows.

I would say that changing from ntfs to fat is not hard at all, all you need to do is goole search software that can do this job. I know that PQ magic can definitely do this job
