That's it! I'm gettin' a Mac. I've had it up to my ears with these crappy PC's. I'm gonna get me a MBP and an iMac once Leopard is released.

I've been a PC user ever since the PC was born. Yeah, way back when DOS and the 8088 processor was the thing. Then of course, the math co-processor, then the 286, 486, etc...Heck, I go as far back as the Tandy TRS-80 (Trash 80s, we used to called 'em) writing basic programs. I've even built a few desktops for myself over the years, tinkering with oc'ing, etc... But I've had it. I've had it with all of these constant crashes.

Recentlly, it all began with a checksum bios error on my liquid cooled desktop (which I had built 3 yrs earlier). Checked out the RAM, changed the CMOS battery, etc...come to find out, my ABIT mobo had fried. What the hey, I needed an excuse for a new system anyway. So I replaced the ABIT with an ASUS, upgraded to a Quad Core, went all out with SLi 8800GTX, water cooled the CPU, both GPU's, and all 4 HD's like before....NOTHING BUT BSOD's on a daily basis since! Fix one thing and another pops up. One of the darnest cause of a BSOD is the daggum wireless keyboard and mouse. Tried both Logitech and Microsoft products. Even downloaded latest updated drivers, too. Funny thing is, if I leave the wired mouse (USB) and wired keyboard (PS2) attached in there, I can use the wireless keyboard and mouse without problem. But as soon as I pulled them out and use the wireless ones alone, BAM! BSOD's all over again.

So I thought that it may have been some driver problem/incompatibility. Thus, I went online and updated all of my drivers. Big freakin' mistake! I've been getting all sort of plugin errors afterward. Especially from Quicktime. Now all of the media player (Windows Media Player 11, Creative, Real) will not work. I get audio but no video on all of them. I go onto the apple.com site and can't see any video on there at all.

These temperamental PC's are really p*iss'in me off. That's it, I'm getting a Mac! Count me in as a switcher, baby! Heck, I ain't gonna even wait for Leopard. I'm gonna order now. Or should I wait? Daggone it!:confused2: No, I ain't waiting. Went to the Apple store this afternoon and test drove already. Gonna go with a 17 " MBP for portability and an iMac to test the waters. Count me in, baby!!!

I also can't wait for Leopard. Tiger is an awesome and lightning quick OS compared to Windows. Leopard can only be better. I'm going to get Leopard the moment it becomes available. Hopefully it doesn't get delayed yet again, as I was kind of hoping to get it with my MBP in August.

I've had great success with building AMD-based desktops, but have had horrid experiences with PC-laptops, hence why I'm using an MBP for my portable needs. Have you thought of going AMD? I'm not mocking Intel here, as they offer superior processors (my MBP's Intel C2D proves it) but AMD is great also.

sounds like a bluetooth issue maybe? Dang, I feel for ya. When you build and a can of worms springs open, it can take a weekend just to sort out what happened. I'm really fond of Abit too, but mostly because of my NF7-S 1.2 mobo. That platform is still solid today. But, heck, sometimes the junk really hits the fan doesn't it? I could tell you a horror story about SOYO, but anyways. I can tell you it feels nice to walk away from all the headaches of the windows/PC world. In some ways I miss the excitement of building ( well, when it works right anyways), but I also enjoy knowing my computer will just work right from the get go.

Congrats, dit_xi! Happy to have you aboard!

Do you qualify for Student Discount? If you do, I'd say get the Mac now, because Student Discount is more of a discount than getting Leopard pre-installed in October. If you don't, then I'd say just hold up a bit more and get Leopard pre-installed.

And by the way, "pissing" is not censored here on NBR :p.

Hmm...I think I'll claim that I'm homeschooling my kids to get a discount. :D Unless the parents are neglectful degenerates, aren't all kids homeschooled to a certain extent anyway? So I don't consider that as lying to Apple to get a discount because I certainly spend more time teaching my kids and helping them with their class load than the teachers at school do.

Good to know that micturition isn't prohibited on NBR!

Oh boy, don't get me started with SOYO! Oh, I tried Bluetooth and RF...nothing seems to work. There's just gotta be a bad driver or something with this wireless incompatibility.

A weekend? I've been at it for almost a month now and hadn't gotten the daggum thing to run smoothly yet. And I haven't even messed with Vista either! Still using WinXP Pro. And that's the other thing, I have the original CD with the holographics, product key and all, but since it's a new system with new MOBO, CPU, etc...had to call the Microsoft mothership to verify things. That goes double for MS Office as well. What a bunch of jerks! It took me a long time to convince them that I have the original products and that I'm reinstalling it back into an upgraded system.

Yup, I can't wait to get my hands on the Mac. You know what they say, "Once you go Mac..." :) I'm too old to be messing around with building and troubleshooting PC's these days. I certainly don't have the time anymore, with work, career, family and all. My time's too precious these days to be wasted on tinkering around. I rather spend money and not have to deal with the headaches.

LOL... I'd say there's a middle ground between building your own PC from parts and buying a Mac (or two)... but hey if it makes you happy then go for it. Apple does have a way of keeping everything simple (such as removing the build-your-own option, among other things), which some people like. Most people don't pick the 17" laptops for "portability" but hey... if it works for you, why not. And if you want to save a little cash, skip the iMac and just hook your MBP up to an external monitor and keyboard... you may want to consider the 15" one if you're using an external monitor or a desktop at home.

Well, I personally don't like desktops for precisely the same reason. Though pc laptops are a bit better in that respect.

Trying out mac is a good decision - I'm doing it myself as soon as I get my mbp - but the whole idea of "switch to mac, it's all that damn windows"(as new macs are internally pc's anyway) seems a bit far-fetched for me(no offence to mac intended). Every piece of hardware/software has its quirks, especially for a power user ;)

P.S. I remember good old dos times. The only thing you had to worry is to how load everything into upper memory so that you have your 600k after loading all the tsr's =) Well, apart from writing a driver yourself if you somehow lost that floppy with all the backups ;)

Apple qualifies "homeschooled" on their web site. You actually need to be using an established homeschool curriculum to qualify.

Student Discount is all year round. But the current Mac + free iPod promotion only happens in the back-to-school period. This promotion ends on September 16th.

That doesn't mean you can take advantage of the system, sharpsees :p. If you don't qualify, don't fill in false information so you do.

hrm... I threw my C64 in the dumpster a few months back. Should of sold it...

But if you're looking to build a MacPro as a gaming rig... be prepared to shell out some serious dough. I was going to do the same, until I realized it would cost around 6k to really get the specs to close to what I want.
I'm actually going the opposite direction you are. But... gaming rigs are a windows only world, and Mac Pros are way too expensive, no SLI, and seriously, who needs a server level processor?

But good luck man. I loved my switch to Mac (switched last Oct.). I haven't used windows much at all since then, so I primarily use OS X and Linux now.

Never been happier... except now I need a desktop gaming rig, and thus, windows :-/
