Nope... not a chance in hell.
Really, no one cares about Wimax. -
It could be, and that would make sense with the tagline. And yeah, with this rumoured ultraportable being aimed at highly-mobile professionals, WiMax would make sense, in a way. I don't necessarily know though, the tagline can be interpreted in many ways.

Doesn't mean squat. Everyone thought 'The beat goes on' meant that finally the beatles catalogue was coming to itunes. But it didn't.... so yeah.

I tend to think that what's "in the air" is people's high expectations as to major new product introductions, etc. this time around. Maybe something utterly new really is around the corner. -
I highly doubt it'd be WiMax as there's NO standing national infrastructure. Sprint's the only one really backing it and it's still a pipe-dream at this stage.

Its a vacuum cleaner. The "something in the air" is probably dirt or cat hairs and the 'air' bit relates to the sucking power of the vacuum cleaner. They're going to call it iClean.
Steve Jobs will test live at it Macworld by sucking up some sticky kiwi jam and some red wine stain off a shaggy rug. I'm getting one. : ¬ ) -
Right now its the calm before the storm... by tomorrow, this forum (as well as many others) will get blasted with comments stemming from the results of MacWorld 2008. I'll have plenty to read by tomorrow evening.

There is absolutely only ONE person who knows what exactly is going down tomorrow and he isn't talking.
Who knows what is in store for us tomorrow. I feel that there will be some cool things that involve wireless. Whether that is WiMax (slim chance), WiFi, or possibly wireless USB. I think it would be cool for Apple to release a driveless (no HDD or disc) MB or MBP that includes an external CD/DVD drive that works wirelessly. Just keep the drive on your desk or in your book bag. When you insert a disc the drive powers up and the disc mounts on the desktop and away you go.
It would be so cool if Apple could implement some form of WiMax into personal basestations. Imagine plugging in your WiMax Airport and surfing not just from your backyard, but from your friend's house in the next town! -
I haven't researched WiMax at all really. Would it allow a person to connect wirelessly to his home network from miles away?

It's possible, but it's probably not realistic. When I think of WiMax, I think of cellphone towers sending out the signals, and people subscribing to data plans from Sprint, which is pretty much how EDGE, EV-DO, and HSDPA work now.Last edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015 -
WiMax will be released by Sprint in the Spring, although their long-term commitment is questionable at best at this point. Sprint is in trouble and the new CEO is looking to cut money where he can. So, no, Apple will not be announcing anything WiMax tomorrow.
I also don't buy the whole MacBook Air theory. While odds are fairly good that an ultraportable will be announced, I doubt it will be called MacBook Air.
I think "There's something in the air" is referring to the buzz currently surrounding Apple and there inability to miss right now. -
What if the tagline was "I have a secret", does the MacBook become the MacBook Secret?
I personally think its a reference to more wireless-related things this year. Like maybe renting movies through Apple TV + iTunes...more iPhone news...etc. -
Could this be what's "in the air"?
