A few days ago I was able to upgrade my MB's ram to 2gb of corsair pc2 5300 ram. The catch was that it would not fit like the oem ram. Where the oem ram sat a few milimeters into the machine, I was easily able to tuck the padding into the machine and screw the plate back in.

On the corsair ram I had to take the padding out to screw on the plate because the ram sat flush with the machine. Long story short I took out the ram to put the padding on, but now the machine wont boot up with the corsair ram because I don't think it is seated correctly.

Was anyone successful adding ram to their MB? Did it seat flush with the machine, or a few milimeters in - enough to easily fit the padding on? What brand/type of ram did you use?

I installed Corsair RAM in my MB. The RAM sits recessed in the slot. You have to press fairly firmly and rock the RAM into the slot. Alternate pressing the left / right sides of the RAM with your thumbs. It will eventually work itself into the slot. Once you see that the RAM is slightly below the surface the padding still won't go into the hole by itself. You have to tuck it in with a screwdriver or thin object. Just place the L shaped cover over the RAM. You will see the gray colored padding sticking out in between the cover and the notebook. Use a thin screwdriver or something similar to tuck the padding in.

I pressed the ram fairly hard to try to make it fit. Pressing one side made the other side tilt up. I don't want to press too hard that it will break, but I guess I may have to. I also know that you have to tuck the padding in, that is how I put the factory ram in.

Did you apply the same amount of force to put the oem ram in as you did the corsair?

    thx

The RAM tilting up was a sign that the RAM was not seated all the way. Press on the right side and when you feel the left move up continue to press on the right side while pressing down on the left side. Alternate pressing on the RAM sides until you don't feel the RAM moving any more. The OEM RAM and the aftermarket RAM were equally difficult to get in.

Duffy, thank you. I applied a little force and I felt the ram click into place. I tucked the padding into the memory slot with a credit card. Now the computer boots up and reads the memory. Thx again.
