Hey guys, I just purchased a macbook this morning for $840.00 from the apple refurb site. Intel Core Duo 1.83, 512 MB Ram, DVD/CDRW. I am wondering if I made a mistake and shouldve spent the extra $150 on the core 2 duo. Someone please shed some light. I dont burn DVD's, and thats why I didnt get the core duo with the DVD burner.

I guess it depends on what you'll be doing on the machine and how long you want it to last. If you're using it for general word processing & internet, then you should be fine. There are people who say it makes a difference and just as many who say it doesn't. When it will matter is in the future when software catches up to the technology.

My opinion is that you'll be fine - but I would consider upgrading the ram to at least 1GB.

You'll be fine. There's maybe a 20% increase in performance going with the Core 2 Duo (assuming it's still 1.83). For the money, you'll hardly notice that.

Your money will be much better spent upgrading to at least 1GB of RAM.

Unless you need a lot of power or are doing processor intensive tasks you will be just fine.

Ah, I just looked at the c2d refurb specs.
Not worth the upgrade. Though I would say go for the white refurb. You get 1 gb of ram, 80 gig hdd, and the dual layer dvd burner (at least i think it's dual layer).

You may not think you want to burn dvds... but you're thinking of movies. Are you going to back up 30 or 40 gigs of data onto cds? You could get a few dual layer discs to do that. Look at that as backup potential...

840.00 is a pretty good price! I just ordered a refurbished core 2 duo but it cost me 1,159.45 after tax.

Core Duo for $840 is ok. Just upgrade the Ram to at least 1GB, and you'll be fine.
