Right now I have a HP laptop that is AMD Turion 64 2.19 Ghz. I am looking at 17 inch Imac with 2.0 or 2.16 ghz Core 2 Duo. Would the 2.0 Core 2 Duo be faster than the 2.19 Ghz I have now?

Yes, the Core 2 Duo's will be faster. You'll have to look at benchmarks and such to see the difference.

From what i have seen the core 2 duo would perform faster. I think it may also give you some better battery life in comparison to the Amd chip (dont quote me on this though) But i guess that might be forfeited as you are looking at a 17inch sized notebook that will probably use more power.

oh though i just remembered, intel are bringing out quad cores, maybe Apple will most likely upgrade, though im not sure when that would happen, i dont really follow their releases that much.

Yeah, we may even see a new processor from intel by then. Santa Rose may be put into it by March... That is if it's released by then.

May 2007 will be very different. Just keep an eye out for what Intel may be introducing around that time. That way you aren't surprised if they release something right after you buy.

Yeah, good chance C2D as we know it will not be in the imac. We'll probably have santa rose in by then. Hopefully in the MBP as well. Not sure what the release date is for Santa Rose, but it shoudl be first quarter.

Santa Rosa is not a chip, it is a platform. Core2Duo will be a part of the Santa Rosa platform.

With Santa Rosa the Intel Macs would be even faster?
