Ah, so another of the reasons for people to whine about is gone - though I give it a week before people start clamoring for santa rosa MBPs :p

Well, maybe not... I think there might actually be some form of quiet for a while now on the whining front, because there aren't any major new hardware standards (architecture, cpu, whatnot) due out until Santa Rosa as far as I can recall.

Damm, i only got my MacBook (base model) last Tuesday, so its been about 8 days iv had it now.

Are there any improvements apart from the Core 2 Duo that should make me get jelous? If the only improvment is the C2D then i dont mind so much.

The improvements aren't as drastic as the difference between the CD MBP and the C2D MBP.
You can still send yours back under the 14 day return policy. I would go ahead and do it actually.

Seems the only other thing that was upgraded was the DVD burner to a dual layer. Oh and the 1.83GHz is the low end Core2Duo with only 2MB of cache, hardly worth upgrading for. To me the only Core2Duo's possibly worth upgrading to are the T7xxx series with 4MB of L2 cache.

Im in the UK and i dont think they will let me return it for a new one because its been opened and used.

So apart from the processor, is there anything else?

Are apple likly to drop updates for the Core Duos in favour of the C2D?

and it comes standard with 120GB. I don't think it's worth to upgrade since I can do all the things I want to do right now with my MB. Sort of, because I would like to have a better 3D card in it. Anything else is just overkill and things that you don't need. Like the dual layer writer. I never wrote a DL dvd in my life because it's just too expensive :)

I think you have 10 days to return it in the UK. I returned a MBP and apple were great and had no problems with me wanting to return it.

Erm... the standard white MB don't come with 120 GB hd. Only the black unit.

Otherwise, the upper version of the MB has been upgraded to include a gig of ram, an 80 gig HD instead of 60 GB and DL DVD burner.

I'm exicted about this new C2D macbook, but my G4 tower is NOT.. their new online updates have crashed my network twice at Apple.com under firefox. The third time I tried to look, after restarting twice, hard crashed my G4 and said in no less than four languages to Press and hold the power button. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come.

Hey, so in about 3-4 weeks when all the core duo macbooks are gone and all stores hav ethe c2d, if our macbook breaks and we haven't had it for a year, nor purchaded the apple protection program, can we return it for a new one with C2D? And what would be a problem that is "replaceable"?

Basically, they are only required to replace it with a like model or higher.

Say you have a 2.0 ghz MB wiht a CD chip and the logic board goes bad. And the only thing they hae is the 1.83 GHZ CD MB units, then they cannot legally give out that. They must give you something better, which would likely be a C2D unit.
To get a new unit, they either have ot be out of parts or it has to be the 3rd time you've sent it back. Or maybe the 4th time. I'm not sure if it's the 3rd time it goes back or if it gets replaced if it has to go back agian after the 3rd time.

I've heard of one person getting his MBP back as a new C2D unit. Mine certianly has plenty of problems, so maybe...

What do you mean "drop updates"... if you mean that they won't care about existing issues, then no, they will not drop updates. But I am uncertain what exactly you mean here.
