    - Im thinking about buying an Aluminum Macbook, 2.4ghz.

I could for the same price get a Dell Studio xps 1640 with the beatiful rgbled screen.

The reason I want the Macbook is because I want to see what Snow Leopard can do when it comes out. And I also will have the ability to run Windows 7 when it comes out.

    - I own a 2001 Ibook g3 500mhz running 10.39. Im actually impressed by the speed and the screen quality on this 8 year old laptop! The viewing angles are great for an ibook. Please confirm that the Macbook has a better screen!

I also have a powerful desktop at home running Windows Vista and ubuntu.

    Thanks!

If the screen is critical for you, then you best go and have a look at a macbook in person. I personally find it to be fine. Sure its not the best out there but its better than the last gen mb... and to my surprise not having to wait 30sec or more for the screen to warmup is actually quite useful.

While I've heard the Dell screen is quite nice, it does not offer the viewing angles in the way a ThinkPad IPS screen does, if that's what you're after. You didn't say what your needs are, other than you wanted one, which is completely valid.

I'd say go for the Macbook seeing as you already have a Windows box at home. The new Macbooks look very nice and heard they perform excellent as well. The largest benefit would be the resale value, they depreciate far less than PC laptops over the same amount of time.

well i think macs are not just great because of their ability to run OS X, infact Macs are PCs. Lets just throw the whole thing of using OS X aside for a sec. Apple make computer just like Dell, HP, Sony. To me its the quality of apple products that attracts me the most. I mean if u hv used the macbook aluminum , then u will know wt i mean. its a solid piece of aluminum, with excellent build quality, amazing keyboard, amazing battery life , multi touch glass trackpad and soo much more. Its just like buying a high class PC. Think of the sony VAIO laptops for a sec, they r expensive but amazingly good. This is how exactly how apple is, their products are expensive but amazing. When you buy apple product , u know u cant go wrong, as opposed to buy a $500 toshiba or Acer.

Now lets talk about OS X, Macs dont just give u beautiful design and quality, but also an amazing OS, but this is not enough, u also have the choice of installing dual booting leopard and windows. Moreover, u can install softwares like parallels desktop or fusion, which will allow you to run windows and leopard apps side by side, i think this is just amazing.

    Hope that helps :)

If you want a mac, just buy it. It's a piece of art. It will eat pretty anything you throw at it. It's also new and stylish.

At the end of the day if you cant convince yourself then nothing anybody says will help you. Go look at a macbook, play with it if you like it and can afford one then you have your answer.

Just Bought a refurb Macbook 2.4ghz!

    Why:

    - Thinner
    - Lighter
    - Better resale value, the 1500.00 dell would likely sell for 750.00 in a year!
    - I already run windows/linux on my desktop so now I have best of all three worlds!

A reason, but not the only, why mac books retain their resale value and not depreciate as quick... is that their notebook "appearance" don't get refreshed every quarter like what most PC companies do. Window OS companies like to make changes and try out new things. New looks to stand out from everyone else. But since they are refreshing they notebooks every quarter, won't you think that if they made it out of a-loo-man-tee-um they'd loose money? Making new designs every quarter with HIGH quality material? Wow. I don't know of a company that does that. So that's why most windows OS companies use high quality plastic that will last a very long time.
Windows OS computer companies are sort of like the guinea pigs before apple say "sh*t, we like what you do, but we can improve it" For instance, they made mp3 players popular.
Sometimes I tell friends that I was listening to my MP3 and they go, WOW You bought an ipod? Lol. Stupid people.

Uhmm, you do realize the Macbooks had been "high quality plastic" for quite sometime.
