I recently purchased a 26" HDTV that is capable of having a computer connected to it. Only problem is the tv has HDMI and the macbook as most of you know, has mini dvi. This is what I purchased to try and make it work.

mini dvi to dvi --> dvi to hdmi adapter --> hdmi cable

Will this work? Will the tv have trouble displaying the picture? The resolution btw is 1366 x 768.

It should work I would think, but do keep us posted on whether it does or not - sounds interesting :)
The resolution I have no idea about though when it comes to hdtv.

Yes, changing DVI to HDMI is no problem. I've had many people do this, but not with MB. As long as your not changing the signal to analog then back to digital you're fine.

I wish Apple made the MacBook with a regular DVI, it would save people from buying adapters and such. I also just realized the tv may just have a dvi input, so I could have saved myself a little less wire clutter.

If I connect the mac to a monitor with HDMI, is there a difference from connecting the monitor that has DVI?

There a different style connect. The major difference is that HDMI carries audio as well. Of course, going from DVI to HDMI, you will have no audio.

Okay, so it worked, but with a little problem. The top and bottom half of the screen is cut off when displayed. The osx menu bar and the bottom half of the dock is cutoff of the screen. Any ideas?

Sounds liek you have have the output to the second monitor set to the wrong resolution.
If your tv is a 1080i or 1080p tv, the output rez should be 1920 x 1080.
    If it's 720 I think it's 1024x720 or 768. Something like that.

go to system preferences -> Displays, and then gather display windows (or something like that). Then you sould see the 2nd display preferences. Play with the resolution till you get it right, but one of those should be proper with an HD TV, but check the manual as well, as it may not be a standard resolution .

I unchecked the box that says "overscan." There is are small black boarders around the edges, but everything is appearing as it should.

    thx.
