I didn't see any recent threads on this here, but has anyone had their MBP painted by Colorware lately? While I like the look of the aluminum, the colors at CW look great. Just seeing if anyone has had experience with them on the Mac. Also, will it void the warranty? I would guess they separate the machine from the case in order to paint it. Thanks!

definitely would void, especially if it was pulled apart by anything other than an authorized service center. BUT, don't they offer a warranty in replacement? I remember seeing a custom painter do this

    ya,.. read the bottom
ColorWare Inc. is not an authorized reseller of Apple Inc. products. ColorWare Inc. replaces all existing Apple Inc. warranty policies and procedures with a ColorWare Inc. warranty, the documentation for which is included with all products purchased from ColorWare Inc.
Mac Mini, SuperDrive, Apple, iLife,Mac OS X are trademarks of Apple Inc.

One more thing. It appears this warranty is viable for NEW purchases through them, but it's unclear whether it applies to Apple Products that are purchased elsewhere, and later sent into colorware for painting.
    Here it is:
In addition, ColorWare Inc. will waive any labor fees that
may be incurred as part of a repair for 12 (twelve) months after the shipping date of the finished product. This additional warranty
only applies to labor for repairs associated with normal hardware failure, not product modification or accidental damages.

So if you have Applecare. sell it. You'll have to pay for parts if something breaks in the future. That sounds like a horrible deal. Imagine a logic board dying.. you'd be out several hunderd for a new motherboard. Or an lcd goes bad.. there goes $400+

Yeh, I've seen them, but they're not a very dark green. I like that forest green look. There was a rebate on Amazon, making them about $25, last week.

someone else makes these too.. can't remember the name.. maybe they have the color you want. Also, backing the case cover with a Black could darken the color some

ya, and you get to keep your warranty too. Hell, I'm almost tempted to do this also.. Make sure krylon will affix to Polycarbonate before you paint. Or you may need a different paint, or added prep. Post pics if you get the chance.. rock on bro

I've seen amazing stuff done with tape (no I'm not kidding) and bicycle frames. Maybe that could work for a notebook too. I'll see if I can find some pictures for an example.

Hey, Ken, ever find those pictures? I'm not going for the paint job until the warranty runs out.

No, I didn't. I honestly haven't looked that hard though. Let me see if I can find it.

Okay, I found it. I don't know if this would work for a notebook or not, but the Macbook Pro would be a good candidate because the surface is smooth like a bike frame.

It's on this thread on bikeforums.net.

Here is a close up of the work, but there are many more pictures in the thread.

To do it properly you would probably need to detach the screen from the base of the notebook, so it might be more trouble than it's worth. You might be able to make some patterns on the outside though to give your MBP character.
