    Hello there
I am looking to buy an Apple laptop. I find the Apple website with all of the features and upgrades and options confusing!! I don't want to buy features I don't need or miss out on upgrades I should invest in. I am a student who will be graduating soon and doing freelance work so a laptop makes sense. Email, internet, word processing are important. Games and all that stuff are not needed. Can anyone offer any advice or point me to a website that might help?

    Thanks!!!!!!!!!

for what your doing a basic setup will work, you wont need the top of the line processor or massive amounts of ram, probably a better investment for you is in a nice screen at the size you want.

Don't just look at Apple, unless you're set on that brand at least. You will find better prices with all these basic features from the major manufacturers such as HP, Dell and Toshiba for a lower price.

Don't discount Apple just for price. Look at the expected length of ownership also. My sister-in-law is using a 1999 Lombard model Powerbook with Jaguar (Mac OSX). I don't think many five-year-old Pentium II laptops can run XP! Of course, she is using her Powerbook for Word, email, internet, and other "light" tasks. She isn't a gamer and doesn't stress the computer like a programmer might. I would say her overall investment has paid off handsomely.

That said, look at the 12 inch Powerbook. It's a great value for the money. If you live near an Apple store, take a look at the models they have on display. Or head over to a CompUSA to see what they have for sale. The online Apple Store refurbs are a good deal. Also check with Small Dog Electronics (http://smalldog.com/) to see what deals they may have on new and refurbished Powerbooks. Happy shopping!
