Hi everyone, im a new member of the mac osx group
I recently ordered a new macbook pro. <- mac newbie
I am just wondering if doing a clean install of the OSX is recommended to clear unnessesary resources, same as a new OEM installed PC.
Or does it come with default settings/programs
I havent gotten any programs with the MBP btw.

Macbook comes clean with no blotware whatsoever. So why bother do a clean install when you just receive your mac :). Just enjoy it.
When you do a clean install, it is exactly the same with how you start your macbook.

Mac <> PC in just about every regard. Apple does not install any unnecessary garbage which the user then needs to remove, nor do they cover their hardware in stickers flogging it's specs!

Most annoying thing about PC notebooks. The stickers and the bloat. My first order of business once I'm satisfied with the purchase and past the return period is a clean install of the OS and sticker removal. I wish you could opt out of bloat and stickers with all vendors.

I agree, no need for a clean install. Just turn it on and enjoy.

I did a fresh install when I received mine ... It was a complete waste of time.

As others have said, there's really no point to it.

It does indeed suck, but that is what keeps the cost down. Companies pay manufacturers to have their software preloaded. High end manufacturers like Alienware usually come with almost no bloatware at all.

Yeah, there is no need to re-install OS X. It will come with some stuff already installed, but no crapware.

So, a big part of the 'cheap' PC is marketing (and the PITA that is bloat) and under powered machines? I mean, $500 lappies are not going to hit the specs of the MBP 15 or 17 inch, I don't think. (PC owner here, thinking of 'joining the darkside' :) )

+1 , the perfect quote for this situation is " you get what u pay for "
i don't care when i get a cheaper price with same specs as an alienware or MBP , remove some stickers and do a fresh install , after all i don't buy a laptop every day :D , remove stickers + a fresh install = 30min , at apple and alienware u pay for a clean OS and a clean laptop , so they don't add garbage for more profit , they already have a very good profit margin

I performed a clean reinstall on my MBP, and Im glad I did.
I removed the 6GB or so worth of extra printer drivers and language packs etc that I do not need, hence saving the space.
I would recommend a clean reinstall if you want to save this space - if not it doesnt come with any bloatware etc so its pretty clean as new.

There is a App that will remove Languages and printer drives, I can't remember it right now, but I'm sure some one here will. It will save you from having to do a re-install.
