Does Apple ever lower the price on these? $899 for the 23" feels like a price from 2 years ago

The Apple Cinema Displays use high quality panels, which explains their higher price compared with budget screens from say Samsung or HP. $900 for a high quality 23" isn't too expensive when you compare it to say other high quality manufacturers like NEC.

The Cinema Displays are more expensive than the average LG, Viewsonic or Dell display, but they are much nicer quality.

You might want to note though, the current Cinema Display lineup is pretty old...Apple is rumoured to update them soon with a new lineup. Possibly (actually, most likely) to have built-in iSight cameras to complete the entire Mac lineup with built-in iSights.

And just for a little info, actually the current price is already lower than before...it used to be even more expensive and Apple dropped the price of the Cinema Display a few months back.

Yea the prices somewhat reflect the higher cost of the S-IPS LCD panels.

What other displays use S-IPS LCD panels?

I hope the next Cinema Displays get rid of the captive cord and add a 2nd input too

The 23" ACD has been lowered in price several times. Its original price was $1799 IIRC.

Well, its places that use LG/Phillips panels ;) Problem is you dont really see them on cheaper displays. The LG in-house line doesnt use the SIPS panels until you are in the 800-1200+ range for their photoediting displays. Dell used to use IPS panels in some of their displays, but for cost reasons switched over to PVA in all but the 30" model.
