Where is the cheapest place to order a new macbook currently? My friend is looking for one with a 9400 graphics card.

Agreed. University students tend to get the best discount. I was able to get 25% off my Macbook.

I don't know about MacMall, as I've heard some bad thing about them... It may of just been a lemon... There's nothing like the true Apple Store themselves. ;)

Is eBay really the place to go?

Its hard to find posting for MB. I see more posting for MBPs than the former.

I'm also in the market for a MB unibody. So far, I think Clubmac has the bests deal.

Also, I'm in NY, so most of the stores WILL charge sales tax (Apple store, Amazon, and others.)

That's a great deal for the 2.4GHz MB, or even the 2.0GHz for that matter! :) eBay really is the way to go to get the best price. ;)

Oh man, how did you even get that MB with cashback at that price? My MB466LL/A that I got a few days ago costs even more than yours. Man, now I regret getting my Mac. :(

How do I know that the laptop I'm purchasing will be eligible for Apple Care? As long as its purchased within a year?

If I buy it and the seller doesn't have a receipt for me, how can I provide proof of purchase (since ebay is not an authorized reseller).

    Thanks!

Actually, buying with a credit card THROUGH Paypal is a better idea. Why? If you are a Visa Signature cardholder or Amex (other cards are applicable, but you have to check) it DOUBLES the manufacturer warranty period up to 1 year - this means that they will pay for any repairs after that 1 year of Applecare.

Ebay is pretty cheap, however there is always risk associated. I usually pay the extra and get it from Apple. You get free postage from Apple and they are very FAST.

hey i dunno if you're specifically looking for the aluminum version, but i just got an email from microcenter and they are offering the white plastic macbook for 999 with a $200 rebate... its the new flavor with the 9400m gfx. 799 for a brand new white macbook is very reasonable.

Yeah I got this off ebay. The cashback will work elsewhere. It all depends on where you buy it. Just check the site they gave in the previous page. The other $100 discount was directly thru ebay.

Thank you very, very much chyidean and kentl901.

I just ordered a brand new 2.4GHz aluminum Macbook for $1450 with $200 cashback, so the final total was $1250!!!

I would've never known about it had you not shared, so thanks again.

Now I just have to be patient and wait for it to get here. The next few days are gonna be loooooonnnnggg.

Did you get the cashback instantly, or did it tell you to wait sixty days? I had bought something back in November of last year, and I had to wait sixty days. I just bought an iPod Touch 32GB like an hour ago and the cashback was deposited instantly, so I'm not sure if that's the policy now, or my case was special.

I just went to my account and it still says "pending" and it also says "59 days left", so hopefully it'll be deposited ASAP, but I guess it can take up to 60 days.

    Yep, it'll take 60 days I guess.

Hmm, that's odd, the $45 cash back I got was instantly deposited. Maybe if it's under a certain amount (probably $50 or $100?) it instantly goes in...

    That sounds about right.

My cashback is for $200, which I believe is the maximum amount you can get back.

Congratulations for not being afraid of ebay. The people who want to bury their head in the sand and insist that using ebay will get you scammed can continue paying ~$500 more for that 2.4 GHz MB through the apple store.
