So I've already ordered my MBP from the online store, but something hit me recently. When I was looking for the model I want (see sig for it, but basically the 2.4 GHz model with the glossy screen and the 7200 spin drive), the store clerk said that those weren't carried in Apple stores due to some odd reason that now I can't really remember. Is that configuration really not carried, or was she just trying to find an excuse for not having any in stock?

    what was there reason?

They would always have the basic configuration available in the store...

It was something along the lines of the 7200 spin drive and the glossy not being compatible with their stock setup, so it needs to be custom configured. I'm sure that's even more BS than what their actual explanation was, but that's the gist that I remember. Sorta.

They only carry the base models (Glossy and Matte) in the store and are able to upgrade the RAM, not the hard drive.

Edit: Oh and they do carry the 1920x1200 17" model in-store as well.

Ah okay - so then to get the 7200 drive I do need to go through the online store?

Yup, that's right or you can order via phone.
