Yeah just heard this from a friend of mine too. I don't think they will make the outside carbon fiber because isn't most carbon fiber scratchable?

Seems likely. If only because it doesn't surprise me that Steve Jobs will have everyone run up and down to cut 100 grams from the MBA.

Hopefully while the redesign the bottom, they allow the port door to slide lower so that even thick USB devices can be used. And they should adopt Wireless USB so that people can complain less about the lack of ports.

i think everyone should look at my past reviews and get ready for me to say ITS ABOUT TIME! ^_^

seriously though, a computer company using real carbon fiber would be quite a shot due to the cost. but to actually get the weight benefit, good carbon fiber would be needed.

I really hope carbon fiber is the next aluminum for apple products.

maybe they will blow us away with a carbon fiber 17" MBP? huh ehh? huhh? apple?... ... huh? hahaha...

probably not as scratch able as any plastic or aluminum. in terms of strength to weight ratio, carbon fiber is almost impossible to beat.

aluminum is a great material for laptops though. unless they co for a full carbon fiber chassis, it may not really be worth the weight difference though.

they really need to find a way to make batteries lighter though, they are such a huge part of any notebooks weight.

Voodoo uses Carbon fiber, and look at the price of there Notebook.

Also I don't think Carbon fiber is environmentally friendly.

Does the air really necessitate a weight reduction? I mean hell you can hold the darn thing horizontally with one hand without straining, how lighter do you want it to be? That would be just another mean of jacking up the price: Macbook Air Black edition= +$1000 to standard edition MSRP....

    My guess: very unlikely.

It would be very nice though because 1.36kg is a bit heavy for an ultraportable.

sony has been using carbon fibre for some time now, and aluminium is more prone to scratch then carbon fibre

I doubt this will happen: Apple still has no faith in Blu-ray, let alone wUSB which is already abandoned by Intel and WiQuest.

Let's just hope the next-gen Bluetooth will do what wireless USB can.

This won't happen. You'll see an aluminum 12" MB Air before you see a carbon fiber one.
