Well, I really don't know what to do. I already have a Dell D430 and it seems to be working great without any issues, however something appears to be missing after I sold my ipod and iphone a few years ago. So I really want to get back into the apple world.

So I was taking a look into two different things from apple:

13in MacBook Pro (have EPP discount)

32GB iPad with wifi and 3G

Mainly, just like my Dell, I would use this to check my email, surf the net, and HD movie watching (720 or 1080).

My Dell has the same resolution as the 13in MBP, but a small HD size and slower ULV processor and a Intel video card (Core AVC). Still has a warranty till 2012 though, so I might as well still use it.

So in everyones opinion, which would be better for me?

why replace the Dell if it does everything you need? You aren't listing many requirements... you don't need a faster CPU or GPU for what your doing.

I'm confused?!?! Here's some stuff from your recent posting that doesn't quite match up to this one.

Last month you asked for buying advice.

You ended up with a Vostro.

I'm not a waster, seriously, and I am sorry if I offended one in the process.

I have a few notebooks, some for work and some that are personal. I don't equate anything thats from work "mine", since 1) its not and 2) IT has the restrictions so tight that if I do something the wrong way (even surf), they know about it.

The 9300 to vostro thread was valid since I was just picking it up. However less than a few days ago it was returned cause some electrical issues I was having (which I didn't post about yet, but I will).

The 17in MBP is my work laptop, and till I get a replacement I am using my own D430 (picked it off ebay) and a desktop at work, for work.

So that leaves me with my personal laptop - D430, and a desktop for work (hopefully get a new one soon). However I would like to have my own mac, not one paid for by the company - or some apple device I can use without IT going nuts and locking the device down. I used to have my _own_ mac a few years ago - G4, but I didn't get another one after.

I am just someone seeking advice, granted I ask a lot, but isn't that what forums are for?

Thank you everyone for there help so far on this question and others.

Sorry but your posts don't make sense.

The next day in the thread about MBPs fragility.

Is it broken or working? If it belongs to work, why are you taking it for repair?

Then back in the one about it being broken...

Once again, you say it belongs to work but you bring it for repair and are now going to sell their property. Plus you have to save up for a new one. Like I said things just don't match up.

I understand where you are coming from, and I am trying to explain it.

I did comment on the fragility since it did fall, and it did work for quite a long time after - however now its not working.

Our IT group is authorized for apple repairs, but since it was out of warranty they wanted me (since the apple store is very close to me) to get a quote. The quote came in and since it was too much just for a MB (hence the question on is it worth it to replace). They allowed me to keep the unit if I wanted it since 1) it was out of warranty anyway 2) been three years since my last laptop.

So in short, I would of fixed it if it was worth it. Granted they would of taken out the HD, and I would of paid them around $250 for it, but it would been mine. I may even still do that since I could some money for it on ebay.

The "need to save up some" quote is based on the fact that if I do want my own Mac, I will need to save up some money. So in the end, I will have two Macs (hopefully) - one for work, and one for myself. Then I had the other question about the MBP 13 vs the iPad (this thread).

why the heck would they do that....? if they can do apple warranty, they can see prices for parts and even buy them... sounds like maybe they were being ultra lazy... or some information is wrong somewhere

More like troll hunters, this forum seems to be too close to a bridge sometimes. :p Some trolls are full bore 24/7 others alternate between positive and negative posts in order to keep some credibility while trying to start fights. It only takes a minute to check someone's history and point it out.

As for the iPad syncing, he's got plenty of PCs to do it with. Have you seen the picture of his computer room?

Wow, that pic is old. I changed so many things, and removed so many things.

I only have a few pcs now (2). Some of the pcs in that pic were dead, or not even on....sad really :(

I figured as much but thought it was safe to assume you would still have a few. Tech junkies are all the same. I've got a few spare Dell systems in the closet for parts or loaners for friends.
