    hey all,

    I just wanted to see if anyone else was having problems copying or editing certain file types on SMB network volumes?

    i can easily acces and rename/delete, copy, and re-arrange files on the network volume, but for some reason I cannot copy certain file types, or delete them.

    Example: on my Leopard machine I can't copy a ".zip" file from the SMB mounted PC to the Leopard machine. also I can't delete the same file from the Leopard machine, though I can easily delete most other file types.

    the error I am getting is not having significant privileges to do so, but I believe I could do this before no problem.

    anyone have any ideas.

    and again I have no problems completely controlling most file types over the network. I can easily send the same .zip file to the Leopard machine from the PC.

    My guess is permissions are messed up on that file.

    Where was it originally created?(XP/Vista/OS X/Linux)
    How big is it?
    Are you sure the file is correct?(ie, not corrupted)

    Also I would do a permissions check via Disk Utility. If it still wont open and you know it isn't corrupt open up terminal, find the file and type:
    Code:
    $ sudo chmod 0777 file.zip

    yeah it is with any .zip file, I know the file is not corrupt, it may be network settings on the PC.

    what is really annoying is that I can easily copy it from the PC to the Mac, just not the other way around, I will go ahea and repair permissions through disk utility.

    Have you tried connecting to your samba folder from any other computer? It would probably be a good idea to try, that way you can localize which machine is causing the problem.
