I have now tried to sell my Macbook Pro 2 times and both times I had buyers for $1400. It is my 2.16 ghz core 2 duo model from early 2007.

I mean, $1400 is a pretty good return, but I just backed away from the sale both times. I just could not bring myself to sell the darn thing. It is just too nice to part with.

I could sell and buy a newer one that is refurbished, but for some reason I like the one I have now and can't seem to figure out why I don't want to get rid of it.

I am keeping it until it dies, thats for sure, but I guess that means I won't be getting an Asus G50.

I remember seeing your FS posts. My machine has nearly identical specs (you have more RAM), and I'm perfectly satisfied with it. Of course, I also have a couple of old PowerBooks which I can't give up, either. LOL I'm typing on one now.

I'm not sure there's really that much to gain if you were to sell your current machine and buy a new one. I think other than a slightly faster processor, you'd get the new screen, but I'm not convinced it's SO much better than what you have, that you should sell. If money isn't much of an issue though, go for it and have fun. LOL

Good choice man. If you like it then keep it.

There is no reason to sell a notebook to get another one.

I did that mistake by selling my macbook black and getting my other xps m1530 (my first one)

    i prefered the macbook since i have 2 m1530 now :\

Just sell it now while it's worthwhile to sell and get the new MacBook Pro (which is probably going to be completely redesigned) in a month from now.

Nah, I'm keepin it. Its been relatively good to me and i'd rather keep a good thing. Besides, a completely new redesign would be nice, but I wouldn't want to first batch. I rememeber when the first MBPs came out...not so great.

I think I'll purchase the newly redesigned one after some revisions of it.

I've got a Penryn Macbook. My son's going off to college a year from now so I'll probably be in the market during the coming year. Let's see. Keep my MB and give the new one to my son or... :D

One of my teachers back at school needed to give me a file from his email, so I opened up Firefox on the school computer, and he closed it, saying, "No, I need to go on the internet" and clicks IE :D.

Sell those powerbooks, get some loot!

I use a powerbook every day mostly because it's the most solid machine I've ever owned, but I'd like a new system, and if you have one, why not get rid of them?

I just sold a powerbook 1.5ghz/80gb/1gb ram/64mb video/Superdrive, on ebay yesterday for a friend. It had the chronic lower memory slot being dead problem, and I still got 515.00 for it...

i purchased a 2.2 ghz macbook brand new from craigslist for 1400 and later sold it for 1250. so you got to lower your price to 1100 or possibly 1000. if you SERIOUSLY want to sell it.

ACTUALLY, Sam, that happened to ME and I told you about it!! TOTAALLY stole my story!

My grandpa actually has an iMac (last gen) updated to Leopard as well as iLife 08, as well as two computers - both running vista... Also lying around his apartment is an iPod Classic, a mini somewhere, his newly aquired iPod touch (Yes, 2.0), and a few hundred accessories for them.

:p and I say just stick with the MBP... I'm not quite sure why I chose the Black Macbook over that, but I did.. and then when I finally came to my senses, I couldn't bare to sell my pretty black macbook - I had become too attached to it, so I kept it. :)

Macbooks have something about them, their design is an acquired taste but for those who do like it, love it. I'd take the Macbook Black over the Macbook Pro, looks nicer, and cheaper and is not as common as the White or MBP haha.

I'm defintely buying the next iteration of MBPs, possibly after only 1 or 2 revisions, just no the very first one.

Until that day comes, I will wait.

Sell my PowerBooks?? Luckily I don't really need the "loot." LOL

What would I buy? I have the title to my car:

And believe it or not, I was lucky enough to be born incredibly good-looking, too, even without the jewelry:

You're probably right, Sam. I post so many crazy pictures, I wouldn't be surprised if I've used it in the past. Besides, I'm old, forgetful and inattentive to details. Oh, and I'm old, too. LOL

You kidding man? having a DAD that knows computers is definitely NOT cool. Parental Protection and restrictions 24/7 and they know everything about what is what so if you wanted some nice hardware they will say "NO!" because they want the kid to study, no gaming. That would be hell man...

Edit: That's right, Stunner. My father is very strict with me. I'm lucky when he'll let me borrow his computer to visit NBR. Maybe one day he'll loan me his car! [IMG]

Agreed. Always buy the third or fourth iteration of a product. Second is probably safe too. But given Apple's track record with first iteration products, no way. As much as I love Apple and their products I can't bring myself to buy a first iteration product.

Either way I won't be in the market until I graduate from college (or my current laptop craps out) so I can go on line and envy the new revision :D

iwantamac, the "first iteration" comment seems very rational. I bought a MB when it first became available. Damn, did that thing run hot! Fortunately, Apple sent out a software update which, IIRC, caused the fans to kick on at a lower temperature (or run faster) and the problem was pretty much solved. Also ordered a MacPro the very day they were made available. The only problem it's ever had is a optical drive cover that doesn't close properly once in a blue moon. (it does make me crazy, though! LOL) My point: not sure I personally will worry too much about buying a new Mac. Even if Apple's track record is not quite perfect, issues usually are quickly resolved by Apple, in my experience.

i recently sold my macbook to a close friend, made back a nice return, and im waiting until the redesigned macbooooks to come out.

i was so confident i'd get the first few batches that came out, but after hearing from a bunch of you people about the probs from the first iterations, i think i'd wait (it'll be hard), but man, a nice 13 inch aluminum macboook, thats too cool.

or even maybe the new mpb but i already own a 15inch windows laptop and i kinda like the ultraportables. but we'll see.
