Does anyone have any experience with this?

I pretty much want to bring my 2010 i7 2.66 Macbook Pro into an Apple Store, next month when I'm in the US, and get the high-res non-glossy display upgrade.

    Is this possible to do?

    Cheers! :D

I don't think they would, but I'm not sure.

Break the screen before you go.

I don't believe that anyone with the knowledge of replacing a MBP's screen resides in an Apple Store (I don't think Apple trains genius' to do that, only RAM and HDD)

Well yeah, of course I will have to drop it off and have them ship it somewhere (like I did with my old MBP when the 8600m GT died).

I'm just wondering if they'll actually do that.

depends on how long ago you bought it. you'll have to pay a restocking fee to return it and get the new one. if it is more than 2 weeks old or so, probably not.

    1. sell current laptop
    2. buy new laptop
    3. eat the cost difference
    4. profit
    5. ???

Can you elaborate on that please? Was your display originally broken or you just replaced it for the high-res?

    Cheers!

If you want to upgrade you're screen, you're going to have to do it yourself, or buy a new laptop. I've never heard of Apple allowing someone to change the screen on their Mac unless it was broken, nevermind just to upgrade it.

Its a huge pain to change out the screen yourself, I tried it once. Its about 3x harder then with a normal laptop. I busted like $80 worth of other stuff just getting the screen off.

I replace 1-3 laptop screens a week, and if someone brought me a Macbook I'd have to say no, I can't replace the screen.

its harder working on Apple laptops than most other brands.. but if you have the actual directions that tell you how to take it apart, its just more time consuming... not hard at all. You can find directions online easily.

You would probably have to go to a certified apple repair center/someone who is third party to do it.

Apple doesn't like doing things like this because it changes what they have in their system based on your serial number.

might be able to work out a deal with the third party palce to buy your old screen and pay the difference +labour.

I wouldn't suggest this at all. If you then ever have to send your Mac in to Apple for repair, they'll see the different screen which may void your warranty. Not worth the trouble.

If you want a different screen, really your only option is to sell your current Mac and then get a new Mac with the screen you want.

or worse... replace your whole machine and you get your old original screen back and lost all the money you spent on the new one... you tell them you had a better screen put in and they say "I know nothing!!"

I doubt it, once the product is bought and shipped out. It stays as it is.

Kinda your choice you didn't choose HiRes Antiglare screen in the first place.
What you can do is purchase part third party and replace it yourself. It will void the warranty for sure.

Best I would do. Sell your MacBook Pro now, mark it as "Like New" or "Mint" condition. At least you get most of your money back + your computer is still under warranty.

Then order the one with Antiglare. A lot of time to be waste to do this.

Yeah I couldn't order because we don't have Apple Store in my country. So I had to walk in an Apple Store in the US and buy one off the shelf.

    Thanks for your suggestions.
