HELP!! I cannot send mail using mail app but can receive. The apple tech and I have traced this to the port but cannot get to the right port. When I use Connection Doctor it checks out incoming server but cannot get to the outgoing server. It worked perfectly and then suddenly stopped working.

Any ideas on how to fix this

What mail service are you using? (gmail, yahoo, hotmail, etc.)

I am using Mail app. I have tried deleting the account and then reentering it all to no avail. I can get email but cannot send. Connection Doctor does not recognize the outgoing server. I tried changing the port from 110 to first 25 and then 465 and then 587 and nothing works. The ISP techs say they are blocking no ports so it must be some kind of conflict established by Apple.

    Help!!

No, as in what account are you using with Mail. Like GMail or something.

Have you tried setting up your email address again in Mail? Sometimes that fixes it.

It could also be how you set up the SMTP server (outgoing server). You should check with Gmail, your ISP or whatever service you're using for your email and make sure that you got it right. It should be something like smtp.gmail.com. But that's just for Gmail.

Thanks Sam, you were right. I tried Apple Support one last time and this time got a technician who knew just what to do in this case. She had me delete everything having to do with Mail ( as Sam had suggested) and reinstall it and this time it worked. I lost all of my history of email received which I use for references but my out mail now works.
